"ثلاث من فعلهن فقد طعم طعم الإيمان: من عبد الله وحده وأنه لا إله إلا الله وأعطى زكاة ماله طيبة بها نفسه رافدة عليه كل عام ولا يعطي الهرمة ولا الدرنة ولا المريضة ولا الشرط اللئيمة ولكن من أوسط أموالكم فإن الله لم يسألكم خيره ولم يأمركم بشره وزكى نفسه "
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Three deeds, whoever does them will taste the flavour of faith: whoever worships Allah alone and believes that La ilaha illallah (there is no true god except Allah); and pays the zakah on his wealth willingly and regularly every year, giving neither an old animal, nor a mangy one, nor a sick one, nor inferior livestock, but rather from his average wealth, for Allah has not asked you for the best of your wealth, nor has He commanded you to give the worst of it; and purifies his soul."
