«ألا إن من قبلكم من أهل الكتاب افترقوا على ثنتين وسبعين ملة وإن هذه الملة ستفترق على ثلاث وسبعين ثنتان وسبعون في النار وواحدة في الجنة وهي الجماعة وإنه سيخرج من أمتي أقوام تجارى بهم تلك الأهواء كما يتجارى الكلب لصاحبه لا يبقى منه عرق ولا مفصل إلا دخله»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Listen! Those before you from the People of the Book split into seventy-two (72) sects, and this Ummah will split into seventy-three (73) sects, of which seventy-two (72) will be in Hell and only one will be in Paradise, and that is al-Jama'ah (Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah). And indeed, there will emerge from my Ummah people in whom desires will spread just as the poison of a rabid dog spreads through the body of the one it bites; not a vein or a joint of him will remain that it does not enter."
