"ألا أدلك على سيد الاستغفار؟ اللهم أنت ربي لا إله إلا أنت خلقتني وأنا عبدك وأنا على عهدك ووعدك ما استطعت أعوذ بك من شر ما صنعت وأبوء لك بنعمتك علي وأعترف ¤ بذنوبي فاغفر لي ذنوبي إنه لا يغفر الذنوب إلا أنت لا يقولها أحد حين يمسي فيأتي عليه قدر قبل أن يصبح إلا وجبت له الجنة ولا يقولها حين يصبح فيأتي عليه قدر قبل أن يمسي إلا وجبت له الجنة"
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Shall I not guide you to Sayyid al-Istighfar (the master of seeking forgiveness)? It is this: 'Allahumma anta rabbi, la ilaha illa anta, khalaqtani wa ana 'abduka, wa ana 'ala 'ahdika wa wa'dika mastata'tu, a'udhu bika min sharri ma sana'tu, wa abu'u laka bi-ni'matika 'alayya, wa a'tarifu bi-dhunubi, faghfir li dhunubi innahu la yaghfiru al-dhunuba illa anta' (O Allah, You are my Lord; there is no true deity except You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I abide by Your covenant and promise as far as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favours upon me and I confess my sins, so forgive me my sins, for none forgives sins except You). Whoever says these words in the evening and his appointed time (of death) comes to him before morning, Paradise becomes obligatory for him; and whoever says them in the morning and his appointed time comes to him before evening, Paradise becomes obligatory for him as well."
