"أبايعكم على أن لا تشركوا بالله شيئا ولا تسرقوا ولا تزنوا ولا تقتلوا أولادكم ولا تأتوا ببهتان تفترونه بين أيديكم وأرجلكم ولا تعصوني في معروف فمن وفى منكم فأجره على الله ومن أصاب من ذلك شيئا فأخذ به في الدنيا فهو له كفارة وطهور ومن ستره الله فذلك ¤ إلى الله عز وجل إن شاء عذبه وإن شاء غفر له"
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I take your pledge of allegiance on condition that you will not associate anything with Allah, will not steal, will not commit adultery, will not kill your children, will not bring a slander that you have invented yourselves, and will not disobey me in anything good. So whoever among you fulfils this pledge, his reward rests with Allah; and whoever commits any of these (sins) and is punished for it in this world, that punishment will be an expiation and a purification for him; and whoever's sin Allah conceals (that is, he is not punished in this world), his matter rests with Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: if He wills He will punish him, and if He wills He will forgive him."
