«إن قريشا حديثو عهد بجاهلية ومصيبة وإني أردت أن أحبوهم وأتألفهم أما ترضون أن يرجع الناس بالدنيا وترجعون برسول الله إلى بيوتكم؟ لو سلك الناس واديا أو شعبا لسلكت وادي الأنصار وشعبهم»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Quraysh have only recently come out of the days of ignorance (Jahiliyyah) and affliction (that is, they are new Muslims), so I wanted to give them (financial) help and win their hearts. Are you (O Ansar!) not content that the people go back with worldly goods, while you return to your homes with the Messenger of Allah? If all the people were to walk in one valley or mountain pass, I would walk in the valley and mountain pass of the Ansar."
