«إن ربي أرسل إلي: أن اقرأ القرآن على حرف فرددت إليه: أن هون على أمتي فأرسل إلي: أن اقرأه على حرفين فرددت إليه: أن هون على أمتي فأرسل إلي: أن اقرأه على سبعة أحرف ولك بكل ردة مسألة تسألنيها قلت: اللهم اغفر لأمتي اللهم اغفر لأمتي وأخرت الثالثة ليوم يرغب إلي فيه الخلق حتى إبراهيم»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, my Lord sent word to me: 'Recite the Qur'an in one harf (mode).' I replied to Him: 'Make it easy for my Ummah!' Then Allah sent word to me again: 'Recite it in two ahruf.' I replied again: 'Make it easy for my Ummah!' Then Allah sent word to me (a third time): 'Recite it in seven ahruf, and for each reply you have a request (a promise of acceptance) which you may ask of Me.' I said: 'O Allah, forgive my Ummah! O Allah, forgive my Ummah!' And I have kept back the third for a day on which all of creation, even Ibrahim (peace be upon him), will turn to me."
