"إن دماءكم وأموالكم عليكم حرام كحرمة يومكم هذا في شهركم هذا في بلدكم هذا ألا إن كل شيء من أمر الجاهلية ¤ تحت قدمي موضوع ودماء الجاهلية موضوعة وأول دم أضعه من دمائنا دم ربيعة بن الحارث بن عبد المطلب وربا الجاهلية موضوع وأول ربا أضع من ربانا ربا العباس بن عبد المطلب فإنه موضوع كله فاتقوا الله في النساء فإنكم أخذتموهن بأمانة الله واستحللتم فروجهن بكلمة الله وإن لكم عليهن أن لا يوطئن فرشكم أحدا تكرهونه فإن فعلن ذلك فاضربوهن ضربا غير مبرح ولهن عليكم رزقهن وكسوتهن بالمعروف وإني قد تركت فيكم ما لن تضلوا بعده إن اعتصمتم به كتاب الله وأنتم مسؤلون عني فما أنتم قائلون؟ قالوا: نشهد أنك قد بلغت وأديت ونصحت فقال: اللهم اشهد"
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, your blood and your wealth are sacred to one another, just like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this city of yours. Beware! Every matter of the Jahiliyyah has been trampled beneath my feet, and all the blood-claims of the Jahiliyyah have been remitted, and the first blood-claim I remit is that of our own family, the blood of Rabi'ah bin al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib. And the usury (riba) of the Jahiliyyah has been abolished, and the first usury I abolish is that of our own family, the usury of al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib; it is all remitted. So fear Allah concerning women! For you have taken them with the trust of Allah and made their private parts lawful by the word of Allah. And your right over them is that they do not allow anyone whom you dislike onto your beds; if they do so, then strike them, but in a way that is not severe or harmful. And their right over you is that you provide them with food and clothing according to what is customary. And I have left among you something which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah (the Qur'an). And you will be asked about me, so what will you say?" The Companions said: "We bear witness that you have conveyed (the religion), fulfilled (the trust) and given sincere counsel." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, bear witness."
