«أما بعد فما بال العامل نستعمله فيأتينا فيقول: هذا من عملكم وهذا أهدي إلي أفلا قعد في بيت أبيه وأمه فينظر هل يهدى له أم لا؟ فوالذي نفس محمد بيده لا يغل أحدكم منها شيئا إلا جاء به يوم القيامة يحمله على عنقه إن كان بعيرا جاء به له رغاء وإن كانت بقرة جاء بها لها خوار وإن كانت شاة جاء بها تيعر فقد بلغت»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"To proceed: What is the matter with the official (who collects zakah) whom we appoint to a task, and then he comes to us and says: 'This is the wealth from your work (i.e., the zakah), and this was given to me as a gift'? Why did he not sit in the house of his father and mother and then see whether he would be given gifts or not? By the One in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! None of you misappropriates anything from it except that he will come on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on his neck. If it is a camel, it will be groaning; if it is a cow, it will be lowing; and if it is a sheep, it will be bleating. Indeed, I have conveyed (the message of Allah)."
