«أما إنه لم تهلك الأمم قبلكم حتى وقعوا في مثل هذا يضربون القرآن بعضه ببعض ما كان من حلال فأحلوه وما كان من حرام فحرموه وما كان من متشابه فآمنوا به»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Listen! The nations before you were destroyed only when they fell into a misguidance like this: they began to strike one part of the Book of Allah against another (and to set its parts in contradiction). It is necessary for you to regard what is lawful as lawful, to hold what is unlawful as unlawful, and simply to believe in what is ambiguous (whose meaning is not fully clear)."
