«أفضل الصدقة أن تصدق وأنت صحيح شحيح تأمل الغنى وتخشى الفقر ولا تمهل حتى إذا بلغت الحلقوم قلت: لفلان كذا ولفلان كذا ألا وقد كان لفلان كذا»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The most excellent charity is that you give charity while you are healthy and eager for wealth, hoping to become rich and fearing poverty. And do not delay giving charity until, when the soul reaches the throat, you begin to say: 'Give so much to so-and-so, and give so much to so-and-so,' when that wealth has by then already become the property of so-and-so (that is, the heirs)."
