It is reported on the authority of Anas bin Malik (RA) that he said: We were forbidden that we should ask anything (without the genuine need) from the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ). It, therefore, pleased us that an intelligent person from the dwellers of the desert should come and asked him (the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)) and we should listen to it. A man from the dwellers of the desert came (to the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)) and said: Muhammad, your messenger came to us and told us your assertion that verily Allah had sent you (as a prophet). He (the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)) remarked: He told the truth. He (the bedouin) said: Who created the heaven? He (the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)) replied: Allah. He (the bedouin again) said: Who created the earth? He (the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)) replied: Allah. He (the bedouin again) said: Who raised these mountains and who created in them whatever is created there? He (the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)) replied: Allah. Upon this he (the bedouin) remarked: By Him Who created the heaven and created the earth and raised mountains thereupon, has Allah (in fact) sent you? He (the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)) said: Yes. He (the bedouin) said: Your messenger also told us that five prayers (had been made) obligatory for us during the day and the night. He (the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)) remarked: He told you the truth. He (the bedouin) said: By Him Who sent you, is it Allah Who ordered you about this (i. e. prayers)? He (the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)) said: Yes. He (the bedouin) said: Your messenger told us that Zakat had been made obligatory in our riches. He (the Holy Prophet) said. He has told the truth. He (the bedouin) said: By Him Who sent you (as a prophet), is it Allah Who ordered you about it (Zakat)? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes. He (the bedouin) said: Your messenger told us that it had been made obligatory for us to fast every year during the month of Ramadan. He (the Holy Prophet) said: He has told the truth. He (the bedouin) said: By Him Who sent you (as a prophet), is it Allah Who ordered you about it (the fasts of Ramadan)? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes. He (the bedouin) said: Your messenger also told us that pilgrimage (Hajj) to the House (of Ka’bah) had been made obligatory for him who is able to undertake the journey to it. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes. The narrator said that he (the bedouin) set off (at the conclusion of this answer, but at the time of his departure) remarked: 'By Him Who sent you with the Truth, I would neither make any addition to them nor would I diminish anything out of them. Upon this the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) remarked: If he were true (to what he said) he must enter Paradise.

It is narrated on the authority of 'Itban bin Malik that he came to Madinah and said: Something had gone wrong with my eyesight. I, therefore, sent (a message to the Holy Prophet): Verily it is my ardent desire that you should kindly grace my house with your presence and observe prayer there so, that I should make that corner a place of worship. He said: The Prophet (ﷺ) came there, and those amongst the Companions whom Allah willed also accompanied him. He entered (my place) and offered prayer at my residence and his Companions began to talk amongst themselves (and this conversation centered round hypocrites), and then the conspicuous one, Malik bin Dukhshum was made the target and they wished that he (the Holy Prophet) should curse him and he should die or he should meet some calamity. In the meanwhile the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace and blessings be upon him) completed his prayer and said: Does Malik bin Dukhshum not testify the fact that there is no god but Allah and verily I am the messenger of Allah. They replied: He makes a profession of it (no doubt) but does not do it out of (sincere) heart. He (the Holy Prophet) said: He who testifies that there is no god but Allah and I am the messenger of Allah would not enter Hell or its (flames) would not consume him. Anas said: This hadith impressed me very much and I told my son to write it down.

It is narrated on the authority of Anas bin Malik (RA) that when this verse:" O ye who believe I raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor shout loud unto him in discourse, as ye shout loud unto one another, lest your deeds should become null and void, while you perceive not" (xlix. 2-5), was revealed. Thabit bin Qais confined himself in his house and said: I am one of the denizens of Fire, and he deliberately avoided coming to the Apostle (ﷺ) . The Apostle (ﷺ) asked Sa'd b, Mu'adh about him and said, Abu Amr, how is Thabit? Has he fallen sick? Sa'd said: He is my neighbour, but I do not know of his illness. Sa'd came to him (Thabit), and conveyed to him the message of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . Upon this Thabit said: This verse was revealed, and you are well aware of the fact that, amongst all of you, mine is the voice louder than that of the Messenger of Allah, and so I am one amongst the denizens of Fire, Sa'd Informed the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) about it. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observed: (Nay, not so) but he (Thabit) is one of the dwellers of Paradise.

Shaiban bin Farukh narrated to us, he said: Hammad bin Salamah narrated to us, he said: Thabit Banani narrated from Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Buraq was brought to me. It is a white, long animal, larger than a donkey and smaller than a mule, it places its hoof where its gaze ends." He said: "I mounted it until I reached Bayt al-Maqdis." He said: "I tied it to the same ring (hook) to which the Prophets (peace be upon them) used to tie their mounts." He said: "Then I entered the mosque and prayed two rak‘ahs in it, then (from there) I came out and Jibril brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. I chose the milk. So Jibril said: You have chosen the natural disposition (fitrah), then he took us up towards the heaven."

Jibril asked for (the door) to be opened, so it was asked: "Who are you?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "And who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was said: "And has he been sent for?" He said: "He has been sent for." So (the door) was opened for us and suddenly I was before Adam (peace be upon him), he welcomed me and prayed for good for me, then he took us up to the second heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened, so it was asked: "Who are you?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "Who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was said: "Has he been sent for?" He said: "He has been sent for." So the door was opened for us, and now I was before two maternal cousins, ‘Isa ibn Maryam and Yahya ibn Zakariya (peace be upon them), both welcomed me and prayed for good for me, then Jibril took us up to the third heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened, so it was said: "Who are you?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "Who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was said: "Has a message been sent to him?" He said: "(Yes) it has been sent." So the door was opened for us and I saw Yusuf (peace be upon him), he was such that half of (all human) beauty had been given to him, he welcomed me and prayed for good for me, then we were taken up to the fourth heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened, so it was said: "Who are these?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "And who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was said: "Has a message been sent to him?" He said: "Yes, it has been sent." So the door was opened for us, then before me was Idris (peace be upon him). He welcomed me and prayed for good for me. The statement of Allah, the Exalted: «وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا» "And We raised him (Idris) to a high station." Then we were taken up to the fifth heaven, so Jibril asked for the door to be opened, it was said: "Who are you?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "And who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was asked: "Has a message been sent to him?" He said: "Yes, it has been sent." So the door was opened for us. Then I met Harun (peace be upon him), he welcomed me and prayed for good for me, then we were taken up to the sixth heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened, so it was said: "Who are these?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "Who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was asked: "Has a message been sent to him?" He said: "Yes, it has been sent." So the door was opened for us. Then I met Musa (peace be upon him), he welcomed me and prayed for good for me, then we were taken up to the seventh heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened. It was said: "Who are these?" He said: "I am Jibril." It was said: "Who is with you?" He said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me." It was said: "Has a message been sent to him?" He said: "(Yes) it has been sent." So the door was opened for us and I was before Ibrahim (peace be upon him). He was reclining against the Bayt al-Ma‘mur. In it, every day seventy thousand angels enter (for worship), then never return to it again, then Jibril took me to Sidrat al-Muntaha (the Lote Tree at the utmost boundary), its leaves are like the ears of elephants and its fruits like big jars, when by Allah’s command that which was to cover it covered it, it changed, there is no creature of Allah that can describe its beauty, then Allah revealed to me what He revealed, and He made fifty prayers obligatory upon me every day and night. I descended and came to Musa (peace be upon him), so he said: "What has your Lord enjoined upon your Ummah?" I said: "Fifty prayers." Musa (peace be upon him) said: "Return to your Lord and ask Him for reduction, for your Ummah will not be able to bear it, I have tested and tried the Children of Israel." He said: "So I returned to my Lord and said: O my Lord! Reduce (the burden) for my Ummah." Allah reduced it by five prayers. I came to Musa (peace be upon him) and said: "Allah has reduced it by five prayers." He said: "Your Ummah will not be able to bear it. Return to your Lord and ask Him for reduction." He said: "I kept going back and forth between my Lord, Blessed and Exalted, and Musa (peace be upon him) until Allah said: O Muhammad! There are five prayers every day and night, and (in reward) for every prayer is ten (rewards), (thus) they are fifty prayers, and whoever intends to do a good deed but does not do it, one good deed will be written for him, and if he does it, ten good deeds will be written for him. And whoever intends to do an evil deed but does not do it, nothing will be written, and if he does it, one evil deed will be written." He said: "I descended and came to Musa (peace be upon him) and informed him, he said: Return to your Lord and ask Him for (more) reduction." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I said: I have gone back to my Lord (so many times) that I am now ashamed before Him."

Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Gabriel (ؑ) came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace be upo him) while he was playing with his playmates. He took hold of him and lay him prostrate on the ground and tore open his breast and took out the heart from it and then extracted a blood-clot out of it and said: That was the part of Satan in thee. And then he washed it with the water of Zamzam in a golden basin and then it was joined together and restored to it place. The boys came running to his mother, i. e. his nurse, and said: Verily Muhammad has been murdered. They all rushed toward him (and found him all right) His color was changed, Anas said. I myself saw the marks of needle on his breast.

Suhaib reported the Apostle (ﷺ) saying: When those deserving of Paradise would enter Paradise, the Blessed and the Exalted would ask: Do you wish Me to give you anything more? They would say: Hast Thou not brightened our faces? Hast Thou not made us enter Paradise and saved us from Fire? He (the narrator) said: He (God) would lift the veil, and of things given to them nothing would he dearer to them than the sight of their Lord, the Mighty and the Glorious.

Ibn Mas'ud reported: Verily the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The last to enter Paradise would be a man who would walk once and stumble once and be burnt by the Fire once. Then when he gets beyond it, he will turn to it and say: Blessed is He Who has saved me from thee. Allah has given me something He has not given to any one of those in earlier or later times. Then a tree would be raised up for him and he will say: O my Lord I bring me near this tree so that I may take shelter in its shade and drink of its water. Allah, the Exalted and Great, would say: O son of Adam, if I grant you this, you will ask Me for something else. He would say: No. my Lord. And he would promise Him that he would not ask for anything else. His Lord would excuse him because He sees what he cannot help desiring; so He would bring him near it, and he would take shelter in its shade and drink of its water. Afterwards a tree more beautiful than the first would be raised up before him and he would say: O my Lord! bring me near this tree in order that I may drink of its water and take shelter in its shade and I shall not ask Thee for anything else. He (Allah) would say: O son of Adam, if I bring you near it you may ask me for something else. He would promise Him that he would not ask for anything else. His Lord will excuse him because He would see something he cannot help desiring. So He would bring him near it and he would enjoy its shade and drink its water. Then a tree would be raised up for him at the gate of the Paradise, more beautiful than the first two. He would say: O my Lord! bring me near this (tree) so that I may enjoy its shade and drink from its water. I shall not ask Thee for anything else. He (Allah) would say: O son of Adam! did you not promise Me that you would not ask Me anything else? He would say: Yes, my Lord, but I shall not ask Thee for anything else. His Lord would excuse him for He sees something the temptation of which he could not resist. He (Allah) would bring him near to it, and when He would bring him near it he would hear the voices of the inhabitants of the Paradise. He would say: O my Lord! admit me to it. He (Allah) would say: O son of Adam, what will bring an end to your requests to Me? Will it please you if I give you the whole world and a like one along with it? He will say: O my Lord! art Thou mocking at me, though Thou art the Lord of the worlds? Ibn Mas'ud laughed and asked (the hearers): Why don't you ask me what I am laughing at. They (then) said: Why do you laugh? He said: It is in this way that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) laughed. They (the companions of the Holy Prophet) asked: Why do you laugh. Messenger of Allah? (ﷺ) He said: On account of the laugh of the Lord of the universe, when he ldesirer of Paradise) sai Thou mocking at me though Thou art the Lord of the worlds? He would say: I am not mocking at you, but I have power to do whatever I will.

Thabit narrated it from Anas (RA) : Among the Jews, when a woman menstruated, they did not dine with her, nor did they live with them in their houses; so the Companions of the Apostle (ﷺ) asked The Apostle (ﷺ) , and Allah, the Exalted revealed: "And they ask you about menstruation; say it is a pollution, so keep away from woman during menstruation" to the end (Qur'an, ii. 222). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Do everything except intercourse. The Jews heard of that and said: This man does not want to leave anything we do without opposing us in it. Usaid bin Hudair and Abbad bin Bishr came and said: Messenger of Allah, the Jews say such and such thing. We should not have, therefore, any contact with them (as the Jews do). The face of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) underwent such a change that we thought he was angry with them, but when they went out, they happened to receive a gift of milk which was sent to the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) . He (the Holy Prophet) called for them and gave them drink, whereby they knew that he was not angry with them

Thabit reported it on the authority of Anas (RA) : I have never said such a light and perfect prayer as I said behind the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . The prayer of the Messenger. of Allah (ﷺ) was well balanced. And so too was the prayer of Abu Bakr (RA) well balanced. When it was the time of 'Umar bin al-Khattab he prolonged the morning prayer. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Allah listened to him who praised Him, he stood erect till we said: He has forgotten. He then prostrated and sat between two prostration till we said: He has forgotten.

Anas reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray towards Bait-ul-Maqdis, that it was revealed (to him):" Indeed We see the turning of the face to heaven, wherefore We shall assuredly cause thee to turn towards Qibla which shall please thee. So turn thy face towards the sacred Mosque (Ka’bah)" (ii. 144). A person from Banu Salama was going; (he found the people) in ruk'u (while) praying the dawn prayer and they had said one rak'ah. He said in a loud voice: Listen! the Qibla has been changed and they turned towards (the new) Qibla (Ka’bah) in that very state.

Anas reported: A man came panting and entered the row of worshippers and said: Praise be to Allah, much praised and blessed. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) finished the prayer he said: Who amongst you uttered these words? The people remained silent. He (the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) again said) -: Who amongst you uttered these words? He said nothing wrong. Then a man said: I came and had a difficulty in breathing, so I uttered them. He replied: I saw twelve angels facing one another as to who will take them up (to Allah).

Thabit reported: They (the believers) asked Anas about the ring of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he said: One night the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) delayed (observing) the 'Isha' prayer up to the midnight or midnight was about to be over. He then came and said: (Other) people have offered prayers and slept, but you are constantly in prayer as long as you wait for prayer. Anas said: I perceive as if I am seeing the luster of his silver ring, and lifted his small left finger (in order to show how the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) had lifted it).

Thabit reported on the authority of Anas (RA) : The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) came to us and there was none in our house but I, my mother and my aunt Umm Haram. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Stand up so that I may lead you in prayer (and there was no time for prescribed prayer). He led us in prayer. A person said to Thabit (RA) : Where stood Anas with him (the Holy Prophet)? He replied: He was on the right side. He then blessed us, the members of the household with every good of this world and of the Hereafter. My mother said: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (and then, pointing towards Anas, said), here is your little servant, invoke the blessing of Allah upon him too. He then blessed me with every good, and he concluded his blessings for me (with these words): Allah! increase his wealth, and his children and make (them the source of) blessing for him.

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The servant is constantly in prayer so long as he is in a place of worship waiting for the prayer (to be observed in congregation), and the angels invoke (blessings upon him in these words): O Allah! pardon him. O Allah! show mercy to him, (and they continue to do so) till he returns (from the mosque having completed the prayer) or his ablution breaks. I said: How is the ablution broken? He said: By breaking of the wind noiselessly or with noise.

Thabit narrated from Abdullah bin Rabah, and he narrated from Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us and said: "You will keep traveling throughout your evening and night, and if Allah wills, you will reach water by tomorrow." The people set out, and no one even looked back at another. Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In this state, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept walking until half the night had passed. I was walking by his side. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became drowsy and leaned to one side on his mount. I came to him and, without waking him, supported him until he sat upright on his mount. Then he continued walking until most of the night had passed, and again he leaned (to one side) on his mount. He said: I supported him without waking him until he sat upright on his mount. He said: Then he continued walking until it was the last part of the pre-dawn time, and then he leaned again, this time more than the previous two times, and it was close that he would fall from the camel. I came to him and supported him, so he raised his blessed head and said: "Who is this?" I said: Abu Qatadah. He said: "Since when have you been traveling with me like this?" I said: I have been traveling like this since the night. He said: "May Allah protect you as you have protected His Prophet." Then he said: "Do you see (that) we are hidden from the people?" Then he asked: "Do you see anyone (else)?" I said: Here is one rider. Then I said: Here is another rider, until we gathered and became seven riders. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) moved aside from the road, then put his head down (and lay down), then said: "Take care of our prayer for us." Then the first to wake up was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself, and the sun was shining on his back. He said: We stood up in a state of great anxiety. Then he said: "Mount up." We mounted and set out until, when the sun had risen high, he dismounted. Then he asked for the ablution vessel which was with me, and there was some water in it. He said: Then he performed a light ablution from it, less than a complete ablution, and some water remained in it. Then he said to me, Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Keep our ablution vessel safe for us, there will be a matter concerning it." Then Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) called the adhan for prayer, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed two rak'ahs, then he led the morning prayer as he used to do. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted, and we mounted with him. He said: Some of us began whispering to each other about what expiation there was for our shortcoming in the prayer. Upon this, he said: "Is there not an example for you in my action?" Then he said: "Know that there is no shortcoming in sleep (overcoming someone). The shortcoming is for the one who does not pray until the time of the next prayer comes after waking up. Whoever does so, let him pray when he wakes up, and when the next day comes, let him pray at its time." Then he said: "What do you think the (other) people have done?" He said: Then he said: "The people, when morning came, found their Prophet missing. Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is behind you; he would not leave you behind. (Other) people said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is ahead of you. If they follow the words of Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), they will be on the right path." He said: We reached the people when the day had risen and everything was hot, and they were saying: O Messenger of Allah! We are dying of thirst. So he said: "No destruction has come upon you." Then he said: "Let my small cup come to me." He said: Then the vessel of ablution water was brought, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept pouring (from it into the cup), and Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) kept giving people to drink. Not much time passed before the people saw the little water left in the ablution vessel, and they crowded around it. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Adopt a good manner, each of you will quench his thirst well." He said: The people did so, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept pouring water (into the cup), and I kept giving people to drink until none remained except me and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) poured water again and said to me: "Drink." I said: O Messenger of Allah! I will not drink until you drink. He said: "The one who gives water to the people drinks last among them." He said: Then I drank, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also drank. He said: After that, the people reached the (next) water in such a state that all their vessels were filled with water and they were well satiated. (Thabit said) Abdullah bin Rabah said: I will narrate this hadith to all the people in the main mosque. Then Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O young man! Be careful how you narrate the hadith; I was also among the riders of the caravan that night. He said: I said: You know this hadith better. So he asked: Which tribe are you from? I said: From the Ansar. He said: Narrate the hadith, you are more aware of your own traditions (Among the Ansar, Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) observed the whole incident most closely, and he was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) throughout the event, and Abdullah bin Rabah, who heard from him, was also from the Ansar.) He said: I narrated the hadith to the people, so Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was also present that night, and I do not think anyone remembered it as you have remembered it.

And as I looked towards Madinah, I found it hollow like (the hollowness of) a basin.
