Hayyan bin Umayr narrates from Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: While I was shooting arrows, the sun suddenly went into eclipse. So I threw the arrows down and set off toward the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I reached him (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing with his hands raised, occupied in glorifying Allah, proclaiming His greatness, praising Him and supplicating, until the eclipse cleared. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited two surahs in two rak'ahs.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Ya'la bin Ata narrates from his father, from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both). And Ata bin al-Sa'ib narrates from his father, from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: The sun went into eclipse in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and stood for so long that it was said: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) will not bow." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed, and bowed for so long that it was said: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) will not raise his head." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and stood for so long that it was said: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) will not bow." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed, and bowed for so long that it was said: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) will not raise his head." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and stood for so long that it was said: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) will not prostrate." (And he mentioned the rest of the hadith.)
The hadith of (Sufyan) al-Thawri from Ya'la bin Ata is gharib (singular) and sahih (authentic); the two Shaykhs used Mu'ammal bin Isma'il as evidence, but they did not record it. As for Ata bin al-Sa'ib, they did not record from him.
