حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا بَحْر بن نَصْر، حدثنا عبد الله ابن وهب، أخبرني عمرو بن الحارث، عن دَرّاج، عن أبي الهيثم، عن أبي سعيد الخُدْري، أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "يأكلُ الترابُ كلّ شيءٍ من الإنسان إِلَّا عَجْبَ ذَنَبِه" قيل: وما هو يا رسول الله؟ قال: "مِثلُ حَبَّةِ خَردَلٍ، منه يُنشَؤُون" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The earth eats everything of a human being except the lower tip of the spine." It was said: O Messenger of Allah! What is it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is like a mustard seed; from it they will be created anew (on the Day of Resurrection)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) in its chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) صحيح لغيره دون قوله: "مثل حبة خردل"، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لضعف دراج أبي السمح في أبي الهيثم العُتْواري.
Grading: (1) It is sahih li-ghayrihi (sahih by virtue of supporting reports) except for the words: "the like of a mustard seed" (these words are not authentic). This chain is weak because the narration of Darraj Abu al-Samh from Abu al-Haytham al-'Utwari is weak.
وأخرجه ابن حبان (3140) من طريق حرملة بن يحيى، عن ابن وهب، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (3140) narrated it by way of Harmalah bin Yahya, from Ibn Wahb, with this chain.
وأخرجه أحمد 17 / (11230/ 3) من طريق ابن لهيعة، عن دراج، به.
Reference / Source: Ahmad 17/ (11230/ 3) narrated it by way of Ibn Lahi'ah, from Darraj, with it.
ويشهد له حديث أبي هريرة عند البخاري (4814) ومسلم (2955).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported (as a shahid) by the hadith of Abu Hurayrah with al-Bukhari (4814) and Muslim (2955).
عَجْب الذنب: هو رأس العُصْعُص أسفل العمود الفقري.
Note / Clarification: "'Ajb al-dhanab": the tip of the coccyx (tailbone) at the lower end of the spinal column.
(2) تحرّف في (ز) و (ك) و (ب) إلى: أبو، والتصويب من (م) و "تلخيص الذهبي".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) In manuscripts (Z), (K) and (B) this has been corrupted into "Abu", and the correction is from (M) and al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis".
(1) في النسخ الخطية: إفساد، وهو تحريف، والتصويب من مصادر التخريج. ومعنى "اقتدار": توسُّط، كما في "حاشية السندي على أحمد".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) In the manuscripts it reads "إفساد", which is a corruption; the correction is from the sources of the takhrij. The meaning of "اقتدار" is: moderation (tawassut), as in "Hashiyat al-Sindi 'ala Musnad Ahmad".
