It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Razin al-Uqayli (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: O Messenger of Allah! Will all of us see our Lord (on the Day of Resurrection)? And what is the sign of that among His creation? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Does not each one of you look at the moon while it is on its own?" They said: Certainly (we do). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then Allah is far greater in majesty than that." He (again) said: O Messenger of Allah! How will Allah Almighty bring the dead to life, and what is the sign of that among His creation? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you ever passed by a valley of your tribe that was dry and barren?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then did you pass by it again when it was swaying (after rain) and green?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the same way Allah Almighty will bring the dead to life, and this is the sign (of resurrection) among His creation."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In our manuscripts this word has been corrupted into "idha".
Grading: Its chain is weak because Waki' bin Hudus (who is also called Ibn 'Udus, with 'ayn) is unknown (majhul). Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (26 / 16186) and Ibn Majah (182) via Yazid bin Harun with this chain. Details of the narration: And they confined themselves to its first half only. Reference / Source: Ahmad (16192) narrated it in full from Bahz bin Asad, from Hammad bin Salamah. Reference / Source: Its first half was narrated likewise by Ahmad (16198), Abu Dawud (4731) and Ibn Hibban (6141) by various routes from Hammad. Reference / Source: Ahmad also narrated it likewise at (16193) and (16196) via Shu'bah, from Ya'la bin 'Ata'. Reference / Source: Its second half was recorded by Abu Dawud (4731) via Shu'bah, from Ya'la. (176). Reference / Source: Ahmad (16194) narrated this second half within a lengthy hadith via 'Abd al-Rahman bin Yazid bin Jabir, from Sulayman bin Musa al-Ashdaq, from Abu Razin al-'Uqayli. Grading: This chain is weak because it is broken (munqati'), since Sulayman bin Musa did not meet any Companion; this was stated by al-Bukhari, as quoted from him by al-Tirmidhi in his "al-'Ilal al-Kabir" (176). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The first half of the hadith is supported by the hadith of Jarir bin 'Abdullah al-Bajali in al-Bukhari (554, 7434) and Muslim (633). He said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he looked at the moon on the night of the full moon and said: "You will surely see your Lord just as you see this moon; you will not crowd one another (or be hindered) in seeing Him." Grading: So this (first) half of the hadith of Abu Razin is "sahih li-ghayrihi".
