Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8851

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the (major) signs (of the Hour) have passed except four: the Dajjal, the Beast of the earth (Dabbat al-Ard), Gog and Magog (Ya'juj and Ma'juj), and the rising of the sun from the west; and the sign with which (the door of deeds) will be sealed upon the sun. Then he recited this verse: "Are they waiting for nothing except that the angels should come to them?" [Surah al-An'am: 158]
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This report is sahih, and all the narrators of this chain are thiqah (trustworthy), except that it is munqati' (broken) between Abu 'Ubaydah and his father 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud, because he did not hear from his father; his father died when he was a child.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sufyan is 'Sufyan al-Thawri' and 'Awf is ''Awf bin Abi Jamilah'.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tafsir" [8/101] by two routes from 'Awf, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was narrated in similar form by Nu'aym bin Hammad in "al-Fitan" (1855), Ibn Abi Shaybah [15/179], and Ishaq bin Rahawayh in his "Musnad" [see: al-Matalib al-'Aliyah (4498)] by way of Ibn Sirin, and by al-Dulabi in "al-Kuna wa al-Asma'" (1639) by way of Abu al-Kanud, both of them from 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narration of Ibn Sirin (named explicitly as Muhammad in Nu'aym's version) from Ibn Mas'ud is munqati'. The narration of Abu al-Kanud (who is al-Azdi al-Kufi) is muttasil (connected), but in the chain leading to him there is a narrator whom we do not know.
