Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8460

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said to Nafi': "O Nafi'! My blood is agitated, so find me a cupper (hajjam), and if possible let him be gentle; do not bring an old man or a small boy, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: 'Cupping (hijamah) on an empty stomach is better; in it there is cure and blessing; it increases the intellect and the memory. So have cupping done with the blessing of Allah on Thursday, and avoid it on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And have cupping done on Monday and Tuesday, for that is the day on which Allah Almighty relieved Ayyub (peace be upon him) of his trial. Leprosy (baras) and elephantiasis (judham) only appear on Wednesday or on the night of Wednesday, for Ayyub (peace be upon him) was afflicted with his trial on a Wednesday.'"
All the narrators of this hadith are trustworthy, except for Uthman bin Ja'far, about whose reliability or criticism I have no knowledge.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "wah" (feeble).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Hajar mentioned Uthman bin Ja'far in
Reference / Source: "Lisan al-Mizan" 5/ 375 and said: Abd al-Malik bin Abd Rabbih al-Ta'i narrated from him a munkar hadith about cupping (hijamah). We say: here his name is written as Uthman bin Ja'far, whereas the correct form is "Uthman bin Matar", as explained at hadith number (7669), where its full takhrij and discussion are found; and this Uthman bin Matar is agreed to be weak and is "matruk". Al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": This has passed, and it is feeble (wah).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ibn Adi recorded it in "al-Kamil" 5/ 163 from Ahmad bin al-Husayn al-Sufi, from Abd al-Malik bin Abd Rabbih al-Ta'i, who said: Abu Ali al-Makfuf (whose name is Uthman) narrated to us, from al-Hasan bin Abi Ja'far, from Muhammad bin Juhadah, with this chain.
