Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said concerning the fara': It is a right, but do not slaughter it while it is a gharah (that is, completely lean and weak) whose sticky substance clings to your hands; rather, let it drink (its mother's) milk until, when it becomes among the best of wealth, then slaughter it.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) with this chain, and the musnad hadith before it is also sahih according to the conditions I have set for this book.

Explanation & Benefits

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts the words "min al-gharah" occur, which is actually a repetition of the first word, whereas in al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis" and in "Musannaf 'Abd al-Razzaq" it is narrated correctly. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Linguistically, "al-gharah" or "al-ghara" is the newborn that is still covered in moisture at birth; its plural is "aghra'". And "al-ghara" and "al-ghira'" is also used for a sticky or adhesive substance (such as gum or paste). For reference, see "al-Qamus" and its commentary "Taj al-'Arus" (root: gh-r-w).
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Abi 'Ammar is "'Ammar al-Makki". Reference / Source: This narration is in "Musannaf 'Abd al-Razzaq" (7992), at the end of which it is narrated that 'Amr (bin Dinar) said: "A man informed me that he heard it from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him)." Reference / Source: Imam 'Abd al-Razzaq (7993) narrated it by way of Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah, from 'Amr bin Dinar, with this same chain.
