فحدَّثَناه أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، أخبرنا الرّبيع بن سليمان، أخبرنا الشافعي، أخبرنا يحيى بن سُلَيم، عن عبد الله بن عثمان بن خُثَيم، عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عباس قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "خيرُ ثِيابِكم البياضُ، فأَلْبِسوها أحياءَكم، وكَفِّنوا فيها موتاكم، وإنَّ من خيرِ أكحالِكم الإثمِدَ، إنه يَجْلُو البصرَ ويُنبِتُ الشَّعرَ" (3). هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. وأما حديث سَمُرة بن جُندُب، فقد قدّمتُ الخلاف فيه على حديث أبي قِلابة، وله إسناد صحيح على شرط الشيخين: [التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] ترقيم العلميه 7378 - صحيح
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of your garments are the white ones, so clothe your living in them and shroud your dead in them. And among the best of your kohl is ithmid, for it sharpens the eyesight and makes the eyelashes grow."
This hadith is sahih al-isnad (its chain is authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. As for the hadith of Samurah bin Jundub, I have already set out the disagreement over it in the hadith of Abu Qilabah, and it has a chain that is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim):

(3) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل يحيى بن سليم - وهو الطائفي - وقد توبع، وقد سلف الشطر الأول من طريقه ومن طريق المسعودي عن ابن خثيم برقم (1324). Grading: (3) This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (authentic due to other reports), and this chain is hasan on account of Yahya bin Sulaym (al-Ta'ifi), and he has been corroborated. Note / Clarification: Its first part has passed at number (1324) via him and via al-Mas'udi, from Ibn Khuthaym. وأخرج شطره الثاني النسائي (9344) من طريق داود العطار، عن عبد الله بن عثمان، به. Reference / Source: Its second part was narrated by al-Nasa'i (9344) via Dawud al-'Attar, from Abd Allah bin 'Uthman, with this chain. وأخرجه مجموعًا مع الحديث السالف عند المصنّف برقم (1324) من طرق عن ابن خثيم أيضًا: أحمد 4/ (2219) و (2479) و 5/ (3035) و (3426)، وأبو داود (3878)، وابن حبان (5423). وإسناده قوي من أجل ابن خثيم. Reference / Source: It was narrated combined with the hadith that passed with the author (al-Hakim) at number (1324), also via various routes from Ibn Khuthaym, by: Ahmad (4/ 2219, 2479, 5/ 3035, 3426), Abu Dawud (3878) and Ibn Hibban (5423). Grading: And its chain is qawi (strong) on account of Ibn Khuthaym. وسيأتي الشطر الثاني برقم (8452) من طريق سفيان الثَّوري عن ابن خثيم. وأخرجه كذلك الترمذي (1757) و (2048) من طريق عباد بن منصور، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس. وفيه زيادة، وحسّنه الترمذي، وعباد بن منصور ضعيف. Note / Clarification: The second part will come at number (8452) via Sufyan al-Thawri, from Ibn Khuthaym. Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (1757, 2048) likewise narrated it via 'Abbad bin Mansur, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, and it contains an addition. Imam al-Tirmidhi graded it hasan, although 'Abbad bin Mansur is weak. ويشهد له حديث ابن عمر الآتي عند المصنّف برقم (7650)، وإسناده ضعيف. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported (shahid) by the hadith of Ibn 'Umar that comes with the author at number (7650), but its chain is weak. وحديث جابر عند ابن ماجه (3496)، وإسناده حسن في المتابعات والشواهد. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And by the hadith of Jabir in Ibn Majah (3496), whose chain is hasan in corroborations and supporting reports.
