(3). Kathir bin Abdullah narrates from his father, from his grandfather Sayyiduna Amr bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Reconciliation between Muslims is permissible, except a reconciliation that makes something lawful unlawful or makes something unlawful lawful; and Muslims are bound by their (agreed) conditions, except a condition that makes something lawful unlawful."

Grading: This narration is "sahih li-ghayrihi", but this particular chain is weak because of Kathir bin Abdullah al-Muzani. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Most imams declared Kathir bin Abdullah weak, although Imam al-Bukhari and his student Imam al-Tirmidhi held a good opinion of him. His son Kathir is alone in narrating from his father Abdullah bin Amr, and no one other than Ibn Hibban is reported to have declared him thiqah (trustworthy). Reference / Source: Ibn Majah narrated it (2353) by way of Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah, from Khalid bin Makhlad, in abridged form with its first part. Imam al-Tirmidhi narrated it in full (1352) by way of Abu Amir al-Aqadi, from Kathir bin Abdullah, and declared it "hasan sahih". Note / Clarification: See also the narration before it.
