Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (Z) and (B) this word is written "السه" without dots, and a mark was placed on it, while in manuscripts (M) and (S) a blank space was left here.
Note / Clarification: The word retained in the text (i.e. the corrected one) is taken from the other primary sources of takhrij.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this word is written "تفجع", but in our view this is not correct; the word retained in the text is the one that agrees with the sources of takhrij. Al-Jawhari said in "al-Sihah" 3/ 1294: "وجِع فلانٌ يوجع" (so-and-so feels pain).
Grading: Its chain is extremely weak (wahin).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Malik al-Nakha'i (whose name is 'Abd al-Malik bin al-Husayn or 'Ubadah bin al-Husayn) is a "matruk al-hadith" (abandoned) narrator. Moreover, the hearing of Nubayh al-'Anazi from Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) is questionable; thus al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar stated explicitly in "al-Talkhis al-Habir" 1/ 66 that Nubayh did not reach the time of Umm Ayman.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Daraqutni said in "al-'Ilal" (4106) that it is narrated by Abu Malik al-Nakha'i ('Abd al-Malik bin Husayn), but there is disagreement in the chain narrated from him.
Details of the narration: Thus Shababah bin Sawwar narrated it with the chain "Abu Malik al-Nakha'i, from al-Aswad bin Qays, from Nubayh al-'Anazi, from Umm Ayman".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Whereas Salm bin Qutaybah and Qurrah bin Sulayman contradicted Shababah and narrated it with the chain "Abu Malik al-Nakha'i, from Ya'la bin 'Ata', from al-Walid bin 'Abd al-Rahman, from Umm Ayman".
Important point: Since Abu Malik al-Nakha'i is a weak narrator, this "idtirab" (inconsistency) in the narration arose from him.
Reference / Source: The narration of Shababah bin Sawwar that is with the author (al-Hakim) was recorded by Imam al-Tabari in his "Tarikh" 11/ 621, al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" 25/ (230), and Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" 2/ 67 and "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (365), via various routes from Shababah with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): As for the route of Salm bin Qutaybah, Abu Ya'la narrated it (as in "al-Matalib al-'Aliyah" 3823), and via him Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 4/ 303, with the chain Muhammad bin Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami, from Salm bin Qutaybah; in it the name al-Hasan bin Harb or al-Husayn bin Hurayth appears in place of "Abu Malik al-Nakha'i", which is a clear mistake or distortion.
Important point: The correct version is what Ibn al-Sakan narrated (according to Ibn Hajar in al-Isabah) with the chain 'Abd al-Malik bin Husayn, from Ya'la bin 'Ata'; and since 'Abd al-Malik bin Husayn is himself "Abu Malik al-Nakha'i", the hadith revolves around this same (weak) narrator.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ibn Abi 'Asim narrated it in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (3342), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" 24/ (477, 527), Ibn al-Muqri' in his "Mu'jam" (129), Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (7517), and al-Bayhaqi at 7/ 67, via Ibn Jurayj: Hukaymah bint Umaymah narrated from her mother that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to urinate in a bowl made of palm wood, which was placed under his bed. Once he (peace and blessings be upon him) urinated in it, and then when he asked for it, it was empty. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked a woman named Barakah (who was the servant of Umm Habibah and had come from Abyssinia): "Where is the urine that was in this bowl?" She said: "I drank it." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have secured for yourself a great barrier (protection) from the Fire of Hell."
Grading: Its chain may possibly be graded "hasan". This narration has passed in brief with the author (al-Hakim) at hadith no. (602), and likewise Abu Dawud (25), al-Nasa'i (31) and Ibn Hibban (1426) also narrated it in brief.
