Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7085

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) that among these women is Umm Ayman, the freed slave-woman and nanny of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Her name is Barakah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) received her as inheritance (from his father's estate) together with five camels and a flock of goats. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), he freed Umm Ayman. She was married to Ubayd bin Yazid of Banu al-Harith bin al-Khazraj, and from him her son Ayman was born, who was martyred in the Battle of Hunayn. Zayd bin Harithah was the slave of Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), whom she gifted to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he (peace and blessings be upon him) freed him and, after the Prophethood, married him to Umm Ayman, and from them Usamah bin Zayd was born.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this name is written "Ibn Yazid", while in Ibn Sa'd's "al-Tabaqat" 5/ 368 and Ibn Hajar's "al-Isabah" it is "Ibn Zayd"; in Ibn Qani''s "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" 1/ 54 and Abu Nu'aym's "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" 1/ 318 it is given as "Ibn 'Amr".

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts "Umm Ayman" is written here, which is a mistake.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (Z) and (B), owing to distortion, it was written as "Khaybar", and in manuscript (Z) a mark (tadbib) was placed on it, while in manuscripts (M) and (S) the place was left blank.
Important point: What is preserved and correct in the books of sirah and biography is that Ayman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred on the day of the Battle of Hunayn.
