It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that Umm Habibah bint Jahsh (who was the wife of Abd al-Rahman bin Awf and the sister of the Mother of the Believers Zaynab bint Jahsh) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him that she had been suffering from istihadah (bleeding due to illness) for seven years. She asked for a ruling about it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is not menstruation; rather it is (blood from) a vein, so take a ritual bath (ghusl) and pray." So she would bathe in a washtub until the redness of the blood rose over the water, then she would stand up and pray.
Mention of Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her), who belongs to Banu Asad bin Abd al-Uzza and is the maternal aunt of Ibn Abi Mulaykah, the imam of Makkah.
