It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyidah Sahlah (may Allah be pleased with her) (wife of Abu Hudhayfah) to suckle Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah (and make him her foster son), so that Abu Hudhayfah's jealousy (and unease) would go away. So she suckled him while he was a grown man. Rabi'ah says: This was a special concession for Salim.
Mention of Umm Habibah, whose name is Hamnah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Rabi'ah means "Rabi'ah bin Abi 'Abd al-Rahman al-Madani" (Rabi'at al-Ra'y), and al-Qasim means "al-Qasim bin Muhammad bin Abi Bakr al-Siddiq". Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (5456) and Ibn Hibban (4213) narrated it via two different routes from Abdullah bin Wahb, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (42/ 25649), Muslim (1453/ 27, 28) and al-Nasa'i (5452) and (5457) narrated it via Abdullah bin 'Ubaydullah bin Abi Mulaykah, and Ahmad (43/ 26115) via 'Ubaydullah bin Abi Ziyad; both of them (Ibn Abi Mulaykah and Ibn Abi Ziyad) narrate from al-Qasim bin Muhammad, with this same chain. Note / Clarification: 'Abd al-Rahman bin al-Qasim narrated this from his father (al-Qasim bin Muhammad bin Abi Bakr), but there was disagreement over him in its chain. (5450). Details of the narration: Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah narrated it from 'Abd al-Rahman bin al-Qasim, from his father al-Qasim, from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). This narration resembles the narration of Ibn Abi Mulaykah and Ibn Abi Ziyad. Reference / Source: Musnad Ahmad 40/ (24108), Sahih Muslim (1453) (26), Sunan Ibn Majah (1943) and Sunan al-Nasa'i (5450). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammad bin Salamah, in Musnad Ahmad 44/ (27005) and elsewhere, narrated it with the chain 'Abd al-Rahman bin al-Qasim, from al-Qasim, through "Sahlah bint Suhayl" instead of "'A'ishah". Important point: Imam Ibn 'Abd al-Barr stated explicitly in "al-Tamhid" 8/ 259 that what is correct in the hadith of al-Qasim is that it is narrated from 'A'ishah, not from Sahlah, as Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah narrated it; Hammad bin Salamah's version is not correct. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Sufyan al-Thawri, in Sunan al-Nasa'i (5451), narrated it with the chain 'Abd al-Rahman bin al-Qasim, from al-Qasim, as "mursal". (2725). Note / Clarification: In this connection see the preceding discussion and the earlier hadith no. (2725).
