It is narrated from Abu Bakr bin Sulayman bin Abi Hathmah al-Qurashi that a man of the Ansar was afflicted with "namlah" (a kind of skin disease). He was told that Sayyidah al-Shifa' bint Abdullah performed ruqyah for it, so he came to her and asked her to perform ruqyah for him. She said: By Allah! I have not performed ruqyah since I accepted Islam. So the Ansari went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him (peace and blessings be upon him) what Sayyidah al-Shifa' (may Allah be pleased with her) had said. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) summoned Sayyidah al-Shifa' (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "Recite that ruqyah to me." She recited it to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform ruqyah for him, and teach this ruqyah to Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) as well, just as you taught her writing."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) All its narrators are thiqah, but there is disagreement over whether it is "mawsul" (connected) or "mursal", and the preponderant view is that it is "mursal". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibrahim bin Sa'd al-Zuhri narrated it (as here with the author) from Salih bin Kaysan, from Isma'il bin Muhammad bin Sa'd, from Abu Bakr bin Sulayman bin Abi Hathmah. Its apparent form is "irsal", because Abu Bakr bin Sulayman is a Successor. Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Abd al-'Aziz bin 'Umar bin 'Abd al-'Aziz contradicted him (in Ahmad 45/ 27095, Abu Dawud 3887, al-Nasa'i 7501): he narrated it via Salih bin Kaysan, from Abu Bakr bin Sulayman, from "al-Shifa' bint Abdullah" (i.e. he made it connected). Al-Shifa' says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came in to us while I was with Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Will you not teach her (Hafsah) the ruqyah (incantation) for 'namlah' just as you taught her writing?" Important point: 'Abd al-'Aziz dropped the name of Isma'il bin Muhammad from it and made it musnad directly from al-Shifa'. In al-Nasa'i's narration it is Abu Bakr from al-Shifa'. Also Muhammad bin al-Munkadir narrated it from Abu Bakr bin Sulayman, and there was disagreement in this too: some narrated it as connected from the Musnad of Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), and some from Abu Bakr bin Sulayman as mursal. Imam al-Daraqutni in "al-'Ilal" (4058) considered it preponderant that it is "mursal". The author will mention it later via Ibn al-Munkadir at hadith no. (8480). ". Reference / Source: 'Abd al-Razzaq (19768) narrated it from Ma'mar bin Rashid, from Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri; al-Zuhri says: It reached me (balaghan) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a woman: "Will you not teach her the ruqyah for 'namlah' (he meant his wife Hafsah) just as you taught her writing?" (2196). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In the chapter on the permission for the ruqyah for "namlah" there is also a narration from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), which is in Sahih Muslim (2196). Note / Clarification: The explanation of "al-namlah" from Imam Abu 'Ubayd will come at hadith no. (7065): it is the sores or pustules that appear on the sides or other parts of the body.
