Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (M) and (S) this word has been corrupted into "'Abd Allah".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (M) and (S) this word has been corrupted into "Muhammad".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscript (S) this name has been corrupted into "Jubayr bin Waqid", in (M) into "Ja'far bin Farqad", and in (B) into "Hasan bin Farqad"; we have established the correct form from (Z).
Note / Clarification: The name "Jasr": Ibn Makula in "al-Ikmal" (2/100) vocalized it with a fathah. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar writes in "Tabsir al-Muntabih" (1/256): Ibn Durayd said that it is correctly with a fathah, while the hadith scholars pronounce it with a kasrah.
Grading: Its chain is very weak (da'if jiddan); Dawud bin al-Muhabbar is "weak" or "matruk" (abandoned), and his shaykh Jasr is also "weak".
Important point: We have not found this narration with anyone other than the author.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a narration from Umm 'Ayyash, narrated by al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (3/307-308), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" 25/(236) and "al-Awsat" (5269), Ibn Mandah in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (p. 931), Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (8002) and Ibn 'Asakir in his "Tarikh" (39/46), all of them by way of 'Abd al-Karim bin Rawh bin 'Anbasah bin Sa'id bin Abi 'Ayyash: My father Rawh bin 'Anbasah narrated to me, from his father 'Anbasah, from his grandmother (his father's mother) Umm 'Ayyash, who was a slave-woman of Ruqayyah the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); she said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I did not marry Umm Kulthum to 'Uthman except by revelation from heaven."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Tabarani said: It is narrated from Umm 'Ayyash only with this chain, and 'Abd al-Karim bin Rawh is alone in narrating it. Ibn Mandah called it "gharib", saying it is known from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only with this chain. We say: 'Abd al-Karim bin Rawh is "weak" and Abu Rawh is "majhul" (unknown).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): 'Abd Allah bin Ahmad in "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (837), al-Ajurri in "al-Shari'ah" (1406), Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" (5/70 and 60/287), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (3501) and "al-Saghir" (414), and Ibn 'Asakir (41/390) narrated it as marfu' by way of 'Umayr bin 'Imran al-Hanafi, from Ibn Jurayj, from 'Ata', from Ibn 'Abbas: "Allah revealed to me that I should marry my two noble daughters to 'Uthman."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn 'Adi said about 'Umayr bin 'Imran: He narrated false reports from trustworthy narrators, especially from Ibn Jurayj.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: From 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), Ibn 'Asakir narrated it (39/41), but it contains Sulayman bin Salamah al-Khaba'iri, who is "matruk", so it is of no value.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), in Ibn 'Adi (1/305), Abu Nu'aym's "al-Hilyah" (7/251) and Ibn 'Asakir (69/149), with the wording: "I did not marry any of my wives, nor marry off any of my daughters, except with permission that Jibril brought me from Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He)."
Grading: Its chain contains more than one ruined (extremely weak) and weak narrator, so it is "mawdu'" (fabricated). The most sound route of this report, despite its weakness, is the following route with the author, narrated by Ibn Lahi'ah; see it there.
