Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7001

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umaymah (may Allah be pleased with her), the slave woman of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that she said: One day I was pouring water for ablution over the hands of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I wish to return to my family; give me some counsel that I may remember. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not associate anything with Allah, even if you are cut to pieces or burned in fire. Do not disobey your parents; even if they order you to leave your family and your worldly possessions, then leave them. Do not abandon the prayer deliberately, for whoever abandons the prayer deliberately, the protection of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is withdrawn from him. Never drink wine, for it is the root of every evil. Do not alter the boundaries (markers) of land, or else on the Day of Resurrection you will be made to wear a collar the weight of seven earths. Do not turn your back and flee from the battlefield, for whoever flees on the day of battle returns with the wrath of Allah, and his abode is Hell, and what an evil destination it is. Spend on your family according to your means, do not lift your stick from them (for their upbringing), and keep them fearful in matters concerning Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is like this in our handwritten manuscripts, while some of the sources of the takhrij have "tazdadanna" and others have "tazdad".

Grading: Its chain is utterly weak (da'if bi-marrah) because of Yazid bin Sinan al-Ruhawi, since the majority of hadith scholars declared him weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): "Abu Yahya al-Kala'i" is "Sulaym bin 'Amir al-Khaba'iri". Al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": "Its chain is wahin (very weak)."

Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A narration similar to this report has been narrated by way of Safwan bin 'Amr, from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Jubayr bin Nufayr, from Mu'adh bin Jabal, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) enjoined me with ten things", and he mentioned them. Ahmad (36/22075) narrated it.
Grading: Its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy), but it is "munqati'" (broken), since 'Abd al-Rahman bin Jubayr did not live in the time of Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him).

In "Musnad Ahmad" (45/27364) it is found in abridged form with the part about "deliberately abandoning the prayer". This report has also been narrated from Makhul as "mursal" in Hannad's "al-Zuhd" (988), Husayn al-Marwazi's "al-Birr wa al-Silah" (105) and others. And from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Du'a'" (1649); its chain contains al-Nadr bin Ma'bad, who is "weak".
