Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6854

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mikhmar bin Haydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: O Messenger of Allah, I stay away from water for a month at a time and my wife is with me; may I have (marital) relations with her? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." I said: O Messenger of Allah, I stay away for several months at a time. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, even if you stay away for ten years."
From here begins the account of the names of the pure wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): in the Jahiliyyah and in Islam; the virgins and the previously married; in whose marriage they had been before; their number; from whom he had children; with whom the marriage was consummated and with whom it was not; who was divorced before consummation; who was divorced afterwards; who was divorced and then taken back; who died while married to him (peace and blessings be upon him); whom he married in Makkah; whom in Madinah or in other places; who were from Quraysh; who were from the allied tribes; who were from other Arab tribes; who were from the Children of Israel; who were from among Arab captives; which women he (peace and blessings be upon him) proposed to but did not marry; what the times of the marriages were; which of the wives remained married to him (peace and blessings be upon him) until his passing; and an account of the non-Arab slave women.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) Its chain is da'if (weak) because of Sa'id bin Bashir: he is al-Dimashqi.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ubayd bin Sharik: he is Ubayd bin Abd al-Wahid bin Sharik; and Abu al-Jamahir: he is Muhammad bin Uthman al-Tanukhi.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (20/ 797) from Abu Zur'ah Abd al-Rahman bin Amr, and in "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" (2740) from al-Hasan bin Jarir al-Suri; both of them narrate it from Abu al-Jamahir Muhammad bin Uthman with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In "Musnad al-Shamiyyin", "'an abihi" (from his father) occurs in place of "'an 'ammihi" (from his paternal uncle), which is an error.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Abi Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (1492) and al-Bayhaqi 1/ 218 through the route of al-Walid bin Muslim, from Sa'id bin Bashir, with this same chain.
Details of the narration: See the hadith of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) which passed earlier at number (637); in it: "Clean earth is the wudu' (means of purification) of the Muslim, even for ten years (if water is not found)", and its chain is hasan.

Note / Clarification: (1) In our handwritten manuscripts it is written "al-'arayib", and what is established here is taken from the Mahmudiyyah manuscript, as in the al-Mayman edition.
