أخبرني أحمد بن جعفر القَطِيعي، حدثنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، حدثني أبي، حدثنا عبد الرزاق، أخبرنا مَعمَر، عن عبد الله بن طاووس، عن عكرمة ابن خالد، عن المطَّلب بن أبي وَدَاعة قال: رأيتُ رسولَ الله ﷺ يسجدُ في النَّجم، قال: فسَجَدَ الناسُ، معه، قال المطَّلب: ولم أسجُدْ يومئذٍ معهم، وهو يومئذٍ مُشركٌ، قال المطَّلب: فلا أدَعُ أن أسجدَ فيها أبدًا (1). ذكرُ عبد الله بن الحارث بن جَزْء الزُّبيدي ﵁-

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Muttalib bin Abi Wada'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrate in Surah al-Najm, and all the people prostrated with him (peace and blessings be upon him). Al-Muttalib said: I did not prostrate with them that day, because at that time I was a polytheist. Al-Muttalib (later) used to say: Now (after becoming Muslim) I will never abandon prostrating in this surah.

(1) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لانقطاعه، عكرمة بن خالد ـ وهو المخزومي -لم يسمع المطلب بن أبي وداعة، بينهما جعفر بن المطلب بن أبي وداعة كما سيأتي في التخريج. قال الدارقطني في "العلل" (3407): يرويه معمر، واختلف عنه؛ فرواه محمد بن ثور وعبد الرزاق عن معمر عن ابن طاووس عن عكرمة بن خالد عن المطلب، وخالفهما رباح بن زيد و محمد بن عمر الواقدي، فروياه عن معمر عن ابن طاووس عن عكرمة بن خالد عن جعفر بن المطلب عن أبيه، وهو الصحيح، انتهى. ابن طاووس: هو عبد الله.
Grading: This narration is "sahih li-ghayrihi", but this chain is weak because of a break (inqita') in it.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Ikrimah bin Khalid (al-Makhzumi) did not hear from al-Muttalib bin Abi Wada'ah; between them is "Ja'far bin al-Muttalib bin Abi Wada'ah", as will come in the takhrij. Imam al-Daraqutni said in "al-'Ilal" (3407) that it is narrated by Ma'mar and there is a disagreement over him: Muhammad bin Thawr and 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated it from Ma'mar, from Ibn Tawus, from 'Ikrimah bin Khalid, from al-Muttalib, whereas Rabah bin Zayd and Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi, differing from them, narrated it from Ma'mar, from Ibn Tawus, from 'Ikrimah bin Khalid, from Ja'far bin al-Muttalib, from his father, and this is the correct one. Ibn Tawus is 'Abd Allah bin Tawus.
وأخرجه أحمد 24/ (15464) و 29/ (17892) و 45/ (27246) عن عبد الرزاق، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (24/ 15464, 29/ 17892 and 45/ 27246) from 'Abd al-Razzaq, with this same chain.
وأخرجه أحمد أيضًا 24/ (15465) و 29/ (17893) و 45/ (27245) -ومن طريقه النسائي (1032) - من طريق رباح بن زيد، عن معمر، عن ابن طاووس، عن عكرمة بن خالد، عن جعفر ابن المطلب بن أبي وداعة، عن أبيه. فزاد فيه جعفرًا، وجعفر روى عنه اثنان، وذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات"، فمثله يحتمل التحسين.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad also narrated it (24/ 15465, 29/ 17893 and 45/ 27245), and via him Imam al-Nasa'i (1032), with the chain of Rabah bin Zayd, from Ma'mar, from Ibn Tawus, from 'Ikrimah bin Khalid, from Ja'far bin al-Muttalib bin Abi Wada'ah, from his father, adding "Ja'far" to the chain.
Grading: Two narrators narrated from Ja'far, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat", so someone like him can possibly be graded "hasan".
ويشهد لسجوده ﷺ في سورة النجم حديث عبد الله بن مسعود عند البخاري (1067)، ومسلم (576).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report for the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) prostration in Surat al-Najm is the hadith of 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari (1067) and Sahih Muslim (576).
وحديث ابن عبّاس عند البخاري (1071)، وسلف عند المصنف برقم (3787).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A second supporting report is the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), which is in al-Bukhari (1071) and has already passed with the author at number (3787).
