Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The text has been entered from the Mahmudiyyah manuscript, as in the al-Maiman edition; manuscript (M) has "ahaduhuma sahibahu" and manuscript (S) has "ahaduhuma sahibahum".
Grading: This hadith can possibly be graded "hasan li-ghayrihi" on the strength of supporting reports.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Bakr bin Sahl al-Dimyati and 'Abd Allah bin Salih, although there is some weakness in both, corroborate each other. 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad (also said to be 'Amir bin Ziyad) was given an entry by Imam al-Bukhari in "al-Kabir" (5/ 282) and by Ibn Abi Hatim in "al-Jarh wa-l-Ta'dil" (5/ 234), and they mentioned no criticism (jarh) or commendation (ta'dil) of him; we found no one who narrated from him other than Yunus bin Sayf, and Ibn Hibban included him in "al-Thiqat" (5/ 83).
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (19/ 73) and "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" (2011) from Bakr bin Sahl al-Dimyati, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari transmitted it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (5/ 282) from 'Abd Allah bin Salih.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd (9/ 414), al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (5/ 282 and 7/ 192), Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Ahad wa-l-Mathani" (926), al-Bazzar (461 - Kashf al-Astar), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (19/ 74) and in "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" (487 and 488), Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (5791), al-Bayhaqi (3/ 61) and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi in "al-Muttafiq wa-l-Muftariq" (908) narrated it through various routes from Thawr bin Yazid al-Rahabi, from Yunus bin Sayf al-Kala'i.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): al-Humaydi (in Ibn Qani's "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" 2/ 364 and al-Bayhaqi 3/ 61) and Ibrahim bin Ishaq al-Talaqani (in al-Bayhaqi 3/ 61), both narrating from al-Walid bin Muslim, from Thawr, from Yunus, from Qabath, dropped the name of "'Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad" from the chain, and in this they went against everyone else.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin al-Walid al-Zubaydi went against Mu'awiyah bin Salih and Thawr (in al-Bukhari 5/ 282, Ibn Qani's "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" 2/ 364 and al-Tabarani's "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" 1867), narrating it from Yunus bin Sayf, from 'Amir bin Ziyad, from Qabath, thus naming 'Abd al-Rahman as "'Amir"; in "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" it appears as "'Abd al-Rahman", as though one of the transmitters wrote it correctly.
Note / Clarification: Ibn Abi Hatim says in "al-Jarh wa-l-Ta'dil" (7/ 143): I heard Muhammad bin 'Awf al-Himsi say: Everyone who narrates from Yunus bin Sayf says "from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad, from Qabath", except Muhammad bin al-Walid al-Zubaydi, who says "from 'Amir bin Ziyad, from Qabath".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report (shahid) for this hadith is the narration of Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that has passed at number (823), and its chain is "hasan".
Note / Clarification: The word "tatra" means: one after another, i.e. separately.
