أخبرنا الشيخ أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا علي بن عبد العزيز، حدثنا أبو همَّام الدلَّال، حدثنا سعيد بن السائب الطائفي، عن محمد بن عبد الله بن عِيَاض، عن عثمان بن أبي العاص: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ أمرَه أن يجعلَ مسجدَ الطائف حيث كانت طاغيتُهم. (1) ذكرُ أبي الطُّفيل عامر بن واثلة ﵁-

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded him to build the mosque of Ta'if at the very place where their idol (which they used to worship) had stood.
(After this) comes the mention of Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl Amir bin Wathilah (may Allah be pleased with him).

(1) إسناده ضعيف لجهالة محمد بن عبد الله بن عياض، فقد تفرد بالرواية عنه سعيد بن السائب، وذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات". أبو همام الدلال: هو محمد بن محبب بن إسحاق القرشي.
Grading: Its chain is weak because Muhammad bin Abd Allah bin Iyad is majhul.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sa'id bin al-Sa'ib is alone in narrating from him, although Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat".
Note / Clarification: The full name of Abu Hammam al-Dallal is Muhammad bin Muhabbab bin Ishaq al-Qurashi.
وأخرجه أبو داود (450) عن رجاء بن مرجي، وابن ماجه (743) عن محمد بن يحيى، كلاهما عن أبي همام الدلال، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud (450) recorded it from Raja' bin Murajja, and Ibn Majah (743) from Muhammad bin Yahya; both of them narrate it from Abu Hammam al-Dallal with this same chain.
قوله: "حيث كانت طاغيتهم": يعني مكان الصنم الذي كانوا يعبدونه.
Note / Clarification: The words of the hadith "haythu kanat taghiyatuhum" mean: the place where their idol, which they used to worship, stood.
