Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The manuscripts have "Muhammad", but the correct name is "Ahmad", as in Ibn Hajar's "Ithaf al-Maharah" (3980) and in al-Tabarani (2173) in the narration of Ahmad bin 'Abd al-Wahhab al-Hawti.
Note / Clarification: Muhammad and Ahmad are brothers, but the one known for narrating from Muhammad bin Ishaq, and from whom Abu Zur'ah narrates, is Ahmad bin Khalid, as in several places in this book, and both brothers are "la ba'sa bihi" (acceptable).
Grading: The hadith prohibiting fasting on Friday alone is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (authentic due to supporting reports).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): With the author (al-Hakim) and al-Tabarani the name appears as "Hudhafah", but in the works of takhrij and biography the correct name is "Hudhayfah" al-Azdi (al-Bariqi). Marthad bin 'Abd Allah al-Yazani (Abu al-Khayr) is alone in narrating from him, which is why Imam al-Dhahabi called him unknown in "al-Mizan". Although Muhammad bin Ishaq is a mudallis and narrates here with "'an" ('an'anah), he has been corroborated.
Note / Clarification: There is disagreement about whether Junadah al-Azdi was a Companion.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (39/ 24009/ 4) recorded it through the chain of Yazid bin Harun from Muhammad bin Ishaq, and in his version the name is given as "Hudhayfah al-Azdi".
Reference / Source: Imam al-Nasa'i (2787) recorded it through the route of Muhammad bin Salamah al-Harrani from Ibn Ishaq.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain does not mention Marthad bin 'Abd Allah, and, as al-Mizzi said in "Tuhfat al-Ashraf" (2/ 438), this contradicts the narration of Ibn Ishaq's other students.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Nasa'i (2786) recorded it through the route of al-Layth bin Sa'd, from Yazid bin Abi Habib, from Abu al-Khayr Marthad, from Hudhayfah al-Bariqi, from Junadah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The prohibition of fasting on Friday alone is narrated with sahih chains from several Companions, including Jabir (al-Bukhari 1984, Muslim 1143), Abu Hurayrah (al-Bukhari 1985, Muslim 1144) and the Mother of the Believers Juwayriyah bint al-Harith (al-Bukhari 1986).
