حدثنا عليُّ بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل، حدثنا أحمد بن بِشْر المَرثَدي، حدثنا علي بن الجَعْد، حدثنا عَدِيٌّ بن الفضل، عن يونس بن عُبيد، عن معاوية بن قُرَّة، عن أبيه قال: قلت: يا رسول الله، إني لَآخُذُ الشاةَ لأذبحها فأرحَمُها، قال: "والشاةُ إن رَحِمتَها رَحِمَك اللهُ" (3).

Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Qurrah bin Iyas (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I take hold of a goat to slaughter it and I feel pity for it." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And the goat: if you show mercy to it, Allah Almighty will show mercy to you."

(3) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد ضعيف جدًا من أجل عدي بن الفضل فإنه متروك، وقال الذهبي في "تلخيصه": هالك. قلنا: لكنه لم ينفرد به، فقد روي من غير وجه صحيح عن معاوية بن قرة، وسيأتي عند المصنف برقم (7753) بإسناد صحيح.
Grading: This hadith is itself "sahih", but this particular chain is very weak (da'if jiddan) because of 'Adi bin al-Fadl, since he is a "matruk" (abandoned) narrator.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Dhahabi called him "halik" (ruined) in "al-Talkhis".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: 'Adi is not alone in this narration; rather it is also narrated from Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah by other sahih chains, and it will be mentioned later with the author (al-Hakim) at number (7753) with a sahih chain.
وأما حديث عدي بن الفضل فقد أخرجه البزار (3322)، والطبراني في "الكبير" 19/ (47)، وأبو نعيم في "معرفة الصحابة" (5779)، وفي "حلية الأولياء" 2/ 302، والبيهقي في "شعب الإيمان" (10556) من طريقين عن علي بن الجعد، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: The narration of 'Adi bin al-Fadl was narrated by al-Bazzar (3322), al-Tabarani (al-Kabir 19/ 47), Abu Nu'aym (Ma'rifat al-Sahabah 5779 and Hilyat al-Awliya' 2/ 302) and al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (10556) by two routes from 'Ali bin al-Ja'd with this chain.
