It is narrated from Ibn A'ishah that Ziyad al-A'jam came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both) seeking help in paying the blood money (diyah) of five slain people, and he gave him that amount. At this the poet composed these verses: "We asked him for a huge sum and he did not hesitate in the least, and he gave beyond our wishes and hopes. He was generous, then generous again, and when we returned once more he was generous yet again. Whenever I went back to him, he welcomed me with a smile and folded the cushion double (to honour me)."
Imam al-Hakim says: Imam al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim agree that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with them both) heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the age of ten, and by the will of Allah I am mentioning at this point, with their chains of narration, those hadiths upon which the two Shaykhs agree.
