Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6483

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he was asked: Which of the two sons of al-Zubayr (Abdullah and Mus'ab) was braver? He said: Each of them was brave; both of them advanced towards death while seeing it with their own eyes.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this has been corrupted into "bin 'Umar al-'Umari" and the name "Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi" has dropped out; the correct reading, in light of "Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd", is Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi.
Note / Clarification: 'Uthman bin Muhammad is 'Uthman bin Muhammad bin 'Ubayd Allah bin 'Abd Allah bin 'Umar bin al-Khattab; three narrators narrated from him (al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil 6/ 165), and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat" 7/ 198.

Grading: There is "no harm" (la ba'sa bihim) in all the narrators above al-Waqidi.
Important point: The discussion of this chain up to al-Waqidi has already passed under hadith number (4060).
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it in "al-Tabaqat al-Kubra" 6/ 499 from Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi with this same chain.
