Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6476

It is narrated from Mujahid that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to me: Watch out for the place where Ibn al-Zubayr is, and do not take me past it. (Mujahid says:) But the servant forgot, and suddenly the gaze of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) fell upon Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) hanging on the cross. He said three times: "May Allah forgive you." Then he said: By Allah, as far as I know, you were one who fasted much, stood in prayer at night and treated relatives kindly (upheld the ties of kinship). By Allah, I hope that, despite the slips that occurred from you, Allah will never punish you after this. Then he turned towards me and said: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) say that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever does an evil deed is recompensed for it in this very world."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if" (weak), because both Ziyad bin Abi Ziyad al-Jassas and 'Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an in it are weak narrators.
Reference / Source: al-Marwazi narrated it in "Musnad Abi Bakr" (22), al-'Uqayli in "al-Du'afa'" (506), Abu Ya'la in his "Musnad" (18), Ibn al-A'rabi in his "Mu'jam" (1339) and Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" 1/ 334, through various routes from 'Abd al-Wahhab bin 'Ata' al-Khaffaf with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Only the "marfu'" part of this narration was narrated by Imam Ahmad in "al-Musnad" 1 / (23), al-Bazzar in "Musnad al-Bazzar" (21) and al-Tabari in "Tafsir al-Tabari" 5/ 294, via 'Abd al-Wahhab.
Important point: The origin of this marfu' hadith is narrated from Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him): that he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the saying of Allah the Exalted: "Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it",
Details of the narration: whereupon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) replied that its recompense (for the believing servant) is every hardship that befalls him in the form of illness, grief and fatigue.
Reference / Source: It was narrated thus by the mawla of Ibn Siba' from Ibn 'Umar from Abu Bakr, as found in al-Tirmidhi (3039). It also has other routes from Abu Bakr by which it is authentic, in sha' Allah, as explained earlier by the author (al-Hakim) under number (4499).
