Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6470

أخبرني أبو الحسين بن يعقوب الحافظ، أخبرنا محمد بن إسحاق، حدثنا إسماعيل بن أبي الحارث، حدثنا رَوْح بن عُبادة، حدثنا حَبيب بن الشَّهيد، عن ابن أبي مُلَيكة قال: كان ابن الزُّبير يواصلُ سبعة أيام، فيُصبِحُ يومَ الثالث وهو أَليَثُنا. يعني به كأنه لَيثٌ (3).
Ibn Abi Mulaykah narrates that Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to fast continuously for seven days (wisal), and even on the morning of the third day he appeared the most lion-like in strength and vigour among us.

(3) إسناده صحيح. وأخرجه ابن سعد في "الطبقات" 6/ 484، والفاكهي في "أخبار مكة" (1665)، وأبو نعيم في "الحلية" 1/ 355، وفي "معرفة الصحابة" (4140)، والبيهقي في "شعب الإيمان" (3613)، وابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 28/ 177 و 177 - 178 من طرق عن روح بن عبادة بهذا الإسناد. (1) إسناده واهٍ، عمر بن قيس: هو المكي الملقب بسندل، مولى آل الزبير، وهو متروك واهٍ.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd in "al-Tabaqat" 6/ 484, al-Fakihi in "Akhbar Makkah" (1665), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" 1/ 355 and in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (4140), al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (3613) and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 28/ 177 and 177 - 178 narrated it through various routes from Rawh bin 'Ubadah with this same chain.
Grading: (Second chain) This chain is "wahin" (extremely weak), because 'Umar bin Qays al-Makki (nicknamed Sandal), the freed slave (mawla) of the family of al-Zubayr, is an abandoned (matruk) narrator.
أبو عاصم: هو الضحاك بن مخلد.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu 'Asim here refers to "al-Dahhak bin Makhlad" (al-Nabil).
وأخرجه أبو نعيم في "معرفة الصحابة" (4143)، ومن طريقه ابن عساكر 28/ 215 عن أبي حامد بن جبلة، عن محمد بن إسحاق أبي العبّاس السراج، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym (4143), and via him Ibn 'Asakir (28/ 215), transmitted it from Abu Hamid bin Jabalah, from Abu al-'Abbas al-Sarraj, with this same chain.
