Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the previous chain, where the words "haddathani" (he narrated to me) occur, this refers to "Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This word is like this in our manuscripts, but in manuscripts (M) and (S) the letter jim in the word "rijli" has no dot beneath it. Whereas in the copy of "Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd" in the Ahmad III library (which was written in the seventh century AH and collated with Sharaf al-Din al-Dimyati), the wording is: "So I took my sandals in my hand and I did not enter my 'rakhl' (house or tent)". This wording appears more correct and more fitting (awjah).
Grading: This hadith is "sahih", but this particular chain is "da'if" because of al-Husayn bin al-Faraj and his shaykh Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Waqidi is alone in narrating from Sa'id bin 'Ata' bin Abi Marwan, and we did not find his biography (tarjamah), so he is "majhul". His father 'Ata' is a well-known thiqah narrator, while there is a difference of opinion about the name of (the grandfather) Abu Marwan.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it (5/ 226) via the route of Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi with this same chain, but the name of Sa'id's father "'Ata'" has dropped out of this chain.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in his "Musnad", volume 25, hadith number (15963), via the route of 'Affan bin Muslim from Wuhayb bin Khalid from Abd al-Rahman bin Harmalah al-Aslami from Yahya bin Hind bin Harithah, from his paternal uncle Asma' bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In Imam al-Tabarani's "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (869) and "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (2567), 'Affan bin Muslim is corroborated by two other trustworthy narrators narrating from Wuhayb.
Reference / Source: Abd al-'Aziz bin Muhammad al-Darawardi also narrated it, as found with Imam al-Bazzar in "Kashf al-Astar" (1048), through Abd al-Rahman bin Harmalah (bihi).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Hisham al-Makhzumi differed here (as will come later with the author (al-Hakim) at number 6384); he narrated it with the chain of Wuhayb from Ibn Harmalah from Yahya bin Hind from his father "Hind bin Harithah" that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him on the day of 'Ashura', thus making it from the Musnad of Hind rather than of his brother Asma'. Although Abu Hisham (al-Mughirah bin Salamah) is thiqah, this narration of his is "shadh" (contrary to the norm).
Reference / Source: Imam Ibn Hibban narrated it (3618) via the route of Sahl bin Bakkar from Wuhayb from Ibn Harmalah,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): but in it he mentioned Sa'id bin al-Musayyib in place of Yahya bin Hind, which is "ghayr mahfuz" (incorrect).
Grading: Abd al-Rahman bin Harmalah is "saduq" (hasan al-hadith), while his shaykh Yahya bin Hind is "majhul al-hal".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam Ibn Hibban counted Yahya bin Hind among the people of al-Hudaybiyah in "al-Thiqat" 3/ 447, which is not correct; those among the people of al-Hudaybiyah were his father and his paternal uncle Asma' bin Harithah, as is clear in the narration of Musnad Ahmad (15963).
Reference / Source: See the annotation of 'Allamah Abd al-Rahman al-Mu'allimi al-Yamani on al-Bukhari's "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" 8/ 239 on this.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration is supported by the hadith of Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him), which will come later at number (6383), and it is also in the "two Sahihs" (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
