Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) states that Sayyiduna Rabi'ah bin Ka'b al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) was an early Muslim Companion and one of the People of the Suffah. He was appointed to serve the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he stayed attached to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah until his passing, taking part in all the campaigns. After his (peace and blessings be upon him) passing, he left Madinah and settled at a place called "Bayn", a settlement of the tribe of Aslam, one barid's distance from Madinah. He lived until the days of al-Harrah, and he died during that time, in Dhu al-Hijjah in the year 63 AH.

Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (M) and (S) the word is "Bayn", but the correct form, according to manuscript (Z), is "Yayy" (with two ya's); this is a place 45 kilometres south of Madinah on the road to Makkah.
