حَدَّثَنَا أبو العبّاس محمد بن يعقوب، أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الله بن عبد (2) الحَكَم، أخبرنا ابن وهب، أخبرني حفص بن مَيسَرة، عن يحيى بن سعيد، عن سعيد بن المسيب: أنَّ سعد بن أبي وقّاص أوّلُ من أَهراقَ دمًا في سبيل الله (3). هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. It is narrated from Sa'id bin al-Musayyab that Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) was the first person to shed blood in the path of Allah.
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(2) لفظ "عبد" سقط من (ز) و (ب). Technical note / Defect ('illah): The word "Abd" has dropped out of manuscripts (Z) and (B).
(3) خبر صحيح، ورجاله ثقات. Grading: This report is sahih, and all its narrators are thiqah. وذكر مثله الزبير بن بكار فيما أخرجه ابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 20/ 286. وانظر ما بعده.
