Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6226

It is narrated from Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri that the children of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) include: Umar bin Sa'd, who was killed by al-Mukhtar bin Abi Ubayd; Muhammad bin Sa'd, who was killed by al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf, and he was among those companions of Abd al-Rahman bin al-Ash'ath who were taken captive, and the mother of these two was Mariyah bint Qays; Amir bin Sa'd, whose mother was from the tribe of Bahra'; Salih bin Sa'd, who moved to al-Hirah because of some ill feeling with his brother Umar bin Sa'd, and his descendants settled there; he was killed by his slaves, and then his descendants moved to Ra's al-Ayn; Mus'ab bin Sa'd, whose mother was Khawlah bint Umayr; and Ibrahim bin Sa'd, Ishaq bin Sa'd, Yahya bin Sa'd and Aishah bint Sa'd.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: "Bahra'" is a branch of the tribe of Quda'ah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (S) and (M) this word is distorted into "Mahra'" (with a mim); it has been corrected from "Nasab Quraysh" by Mus'ab al-Zubayri.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): From the words "and his descendants settled there" up to here has dropped out of manuscript (B), while the text in brackets had dropped out of the manuscripts and we have completed it from "Nasab Quraysh" (p. 264-265). In manuscript (Z) the word "wa-qatalahu" is miswritten as "wa-qablahu", and in (M) and (S) it is left undotted.
Note / Clarification: Al-Hirah is a historic city in central Iraq whose ruins lie to the south-east of Kufah and Najaf.
Note / Clarification: Ra's al-'Ayn is a city in the north-east of present-day Syria, on the Khabur river.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is how it appears in our manuscripts, whereas according to "Nasab Quraysh" and Ibn Sa'd's "al-Tabaqat" (3/ 129 and 7/ 168) she is Khawlah bint Amr, of Taghlib bin Wa'il; however, according to "Nasab Quraysh" she is the mother of Isma'il bin Muhammad bin Sa'd!
