It is narrated from Huwaytib bin Abd al-Uzza that he said: In the Age of Ignorance we were sitting one day in the courtyard of the Ka'bah when suddenly a woman came seeking the refuge of the Ka'bah from her husband. Her husband came after her and stretched out his hand to seize her, and his hand withered (dried up) on the spot. I saw him in the era of Islam, and he was indeed crippled.

Grading: This report is 'mudtarib' (inconsistent), and its chain is 'layyin' (soft, weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is Muslim bin Khalid al-Zanji, who has weakness; the remaining narrators are thiqah (trustworthy), but Abu Najih al-Makki did not state explicitly that he heard it from Huwaytib (so there is a concern of a break in the chain). Ibn Abi Najih is 'Abdullah bin Yasar al-Makki.
Reference / Source: Al-Azraqi narrated it in "Akhbar Makkah" (2/ 25), Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-'Uqubat" (306) and al-Baghawi in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" (551) through several routes from Muslim bin Khalid with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Tabarani (3068) and Abu Nu'aym (1875) narrated it via Ya'qub bin Abi 'Abbad al-Makki, combining Dawud al-'Attar with Muslim al-Zanji, which is a mistake: the narration of Dawud al-'Attar was made to follow the narration of Muslim al-Zanji. This mistake probably came from Ya'qub bin Abi 'Abbad, who is himself 'saduq (truthful)', but others contradicted him in the narration of Dawud bin 'Abd al-Rahman.
Details of the narration: Three other reliable narrators besides Ya'qub narrated it via Dawud al-'Attar from Ibn Khuthaym from Ibn Abi Najih, that in the Jahiliyyah there were rings in the Ka'bah like the bridles of animals; a frightened person would put his hand in them and no one would touch him. Once a man pulled away a frightened person's hand, and his own hand became paralysed, and he remained in that state until the era of Islam.
Reference / Source: Al-Azraqi (1/ 167), Ibn Abi al-Dunya (311) and Ibn al-Mundhir in his Tafsir (733) narrated it. In it, the wording of Dawud al-'Attar differs from the wording of Muslim al-Zanji.
Details of the narration: Imam Ma'mar also differed in its wording; 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated it in the 'Musannaf' (8866) via Ibn Khuthaym, that in the Jahiliyyah a slave-girl sought refuge at the House (the Ka'bah); her mistress pulled her away and her hand became paralysed, and her hand remained paralysed until Islam came.
Reference / Source: 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated in the 'Musannaf' (8865) with the chain Ma'mar from 'Abdullah bin Tawus from his father that whatever (sin) the people of the Jahiliyyah committed in the Haram, they were requited for it immediately (in this world).
General principle: Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajr quoted in "Fath al-Bari" (11/ 297) a long story from the book of Ibn Abi al-Dunya, the gist of which is that 'Umar said: In the Jahiliyyah people were dealt with (by immediate punishment) so that they would refrain from oppression, because they did not know of the resurrection after death; but when Islam came, retribution (qisas) was postponed until the Day of Resurrection.
