It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to have a pulpit placed in the mosque for Sayyiduna Hassan (may Allah be pleased with him), on which he would stand and recite poems of pride on behalf of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (against the idolaters), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "Indeed, Allah Almighty supports Hassan with the Holy Spirit (Sayyiduna Jibril, peace be upon him) as long as he defends the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) or responds with pride on his (peace and blessings be upon him) behalf."

Grading: This hadith is sahih, except for the mention of placing a minbar in the mosque for Hassan bin Thabit, because that part is 'shadh'. Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad is alone in mentioning the minbar; he is 'hasan al-hadith' but not that strong, while all the remaining narrators of the chain are thiqah (trustworthy). Abu al-Zinad is 'Abdullah bin Dhakwan and 'Urwah is 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (40/ 24437), Abu Dawud (5015) and al-Tirmidhi (2846 M) narrated it via Ibn Abi al-Zinad with this same chain. In Abu Dawud, Hisham bin 'Urwah is also mentioned alongside Abu al-Zinad as a corroborating narrator. Imam al-Tirmidhi graded it 'hasan sahih gharib'. Details of the narration: Without the mention of the minbar, Imam Muslim (2490) narrated it via Abu Salamah bin 'Abd al-Rahman and Ibn Hibban (7147) via Shaddad bin Aws al-Ansari, both of them narrating from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). (6177). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Without the mention of the minbar, a shahid (supporting report) for this narration is the hadith of al-Bara' bin 'Azib, which will come later with the author (al-Hakim) at number (6177). Reference / Source: This narration is in "the two Sahihs" (al-Bukhari and Muslim). Details of the narration: Hassan bin Thabit's own narration (in which he called Abu Hurayrah to witness) is in al-Bukhari (453) and (6152) and Muslim (2485) with these words: "O Hassan! Reply on behalf of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). O Allah! Support him with the Holy Spirit (Ruh al-Qudus)." Note / Clarification: The Holy Spirit (Ruh al-Qudus) means Jibril (peace be upon him).
