Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6161

حَدَّثَنَا أبو العبّاس محمد بن يعقوب، حَدَّثَنَا الحسن بن علي بن عفّان، حَدَّثَنَا أبو أسامة، عن هشام بن عُرْوة، عن أبيه، عن حَكيم بن حِزامٍ قال: أَعتقتُ أربعينَ محرَّرًا في الجاهلية، فسألتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ: هل لي فيهنّ من أجرٍ؟ فقال: "أسلمتَ على ما سَبَقَ لك" (2). صحيح على شرط الشيخين.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "I freed forty slaves in the time of Jahiliyyah, so I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) whether I would have any reward for them." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have accepted Islam along with the good deeds you did before."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim).

Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Important point: Abu Usamah is Hammad bin Usamah, and Urwah is Ibn al-Zubayr.
وأخرجه البخاري (2538) عن عبيد بن إسماعيل، عن أبي أسامة، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari narrated it (2538) via Ubayd bin Isma'il from Abu Usamah, with this same chain.
وأخرجه أحمد 24 / (15575)، ومسلم (123) (195) و (196) من طرق عن هشام بن عروة، به.
Reference / Source: Ahmad and Muslim narrated it through various routes from Hisham bin Urwah.
وأخرجه أحمد (15318) و (15319)، والبخاري (1436) و (2220) و (5992)، ومسلم (123) (194) و (195)، وابن حبان (329) من طريق محمد بن مسلم الزهري، عن عروة، عن حكيم بن حزام، به.
