It is narrated from Mus'ab bin Abdullah that he mentioned the lineage of Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) and added to it that his mother was Fakhitah bint Zuhayr bin Asad bin Abd al-Uzza. She gave birth to Hakim inside the Ka'bah: she was pregnant and her labour pains came upon her inside the Ka'bah, and the birth took place there. She was carried out on a leather mat, and the clothes that had been beneath her were washed beside the basin of Zamzam. No one was born in the Ka'bah before him or after him. Mus'ab erred in this last statement, because the reports have reached the level of tawatur (mass transmission) that Sayyidah Fatimah bint Asad (may Allah be pleased with her) gave birth to the Commander of the Believers, Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah honour his face), inside the Ka'bah.

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this has been distorted to "naq'"; the correct word is "al-nit'", meaning a leather mat or spread.
Important point: Mus'ab bin Abdullah is Mus'ab bin Abdullah bin Mus'ab bin Thabit bin Abdullah bin al-Zubayr, al-Zubayri. Reference / Source: Al-Azraqi transmitted a report with similar meaning in "Akhbar Makkah" (1/174), and al-Khattabi in "Gharib al-Hadith", via Abd al-Aziz bin Imran. Grading: This chain is very weak, because Abd al-Aziz is "matruk" and his shaykh is "majhul". Reference / Source: Al-Zubayr bin Bakkar in "Jamharat Nasab Quraysh" (p. 353) and al-Fakihi in "Akhbar Makkah" transmitted it as a statement of Mus'ab bin Uthman, and Ibn Asakir, Ibn Bashkuwal and Ibn al-Jawzi also narrated it. 298. Important point: This Mus'ab bin Uthman is Ibn Mus'ab bin Urwah bin al-Zubayr, and he was a scholar well-versed in the history and reports of Quraysh.
Important point: According to Ibn al-Jawzi, the narration that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was born inside the Ka'bah does not have an established chain. Grading: Imam al-Nawawi stated explicitly in "Tahdhib al-Asma' wa al-Lughat" (in the biography of Hakim) that the narration of Ali being born in the Ka'bah is "weak" according to the scholars.
