It is narrated from Umm Asim, who was the umm walad of Sinan bin Salamah bin al-Muhabbiq al-Hudhali, that she said: Nubayshah came to us; the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had named him "Nubayshah al-Khayr". He came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) had some captives with him, and he said: "O Messenger of Allah! Either release them as a favour (without compensation), or free them in exchange for a ransom." At this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have advised what is good; you are Nubayshah al-Khayr (Nubayshah of goodness)."

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak because Umm 'Asim is "majhul al-hal" (of unknown status); she is the grandmother of al-Mu'alla bin Rashid al-Nabbal. 9/ 391. Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (21/ 219 - Mulhaq) through the route of Muhammad bin al-Rabi' bin Shahin al-Basri from 'Isa bin Ibrahim al-Burki, with this same chain. Grading: 'Allamah al-Haythami declared its chain "hasan" in "Majma' al-Zawa'id" (9/ 391).
Important point: This is none other than Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) himself; he is sometimes called "al-Azdi" because his lineage goes back to al-Azd bin al-Ghawth (see: Tarikh Baghdad 1/ 493). For this reason some attribute him to al-Azd, as al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar stated explicitly in "al-Isabah" (7/ 33). And Allah knows best. (6040 - 6057). Reference / Source: Mention of his virtues has already passed in hadith numbers (6040 to 6057).
