It is narrated from al-Hasan al-Basri that Ziyad sent Sayyiduna al-Hakam bin Amr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) as the commander of an army. Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) met him in the governor's house among the people and asked: "Do you know why I have come to you? Do you remember that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed about the man whose commander had ordered him to jump into the fire, and the man stood up to jump, but the people held him back, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'If he had jumped into it, both of them (the commander and the one commanded) would have entered the Fire; there is no obedience (to anyone) in disobedience to Allah'?" Al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Yes (I remember)." Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I only intended to remind you of this hadith."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Grading: The hadith is sahih, and the narrators of this chain are thiqah, but al-Hasan (Ibn Abi al-Hasan al-Basri) did not hear from 'Imran nor from al-Hakam bin 'Amr. However, the hadith has two other sahih routes. Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Ali bin 'Abd al-'Aziz is al-Baghawi, Humayd is Ibn Abi Humayd al-Tawil, and Yunus is Ibn 'Ubayd. Reference / Source: Ahmad (34/ 20659) recorded it from 'Abd al-Samad bin 'Abd al-Warith, from Hammad bin Salamah, with this chain. Reference / Source: Ahmad recorded it (33/ 19880, and 34/ 20653 and 20656) by way of Muhammad bin Sirin, and (34/ 20654) by way of 'Abdullah bin al-Samit, both from 'Imran bin al-Husayn. Both chains are sahih. Details of the narration: However, they do not contain the story of the man who, in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), ordered one of the members of his army to throw himself into the fire. (1840). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: But it is supported by the hadith of 'Ali bin Abi Talib in Ahmad (2/ 622), al-Bukhari (4340 and 7145) and Muslim (1840).
