حدثنا علي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدلُ، حدثنا العباس بن الفضل الأَسْفاطيّ، حدثنا إسماعيل بن أبي أُويس، حدثني إبراهيم بن جعفر بن محمود بن محمد بن مَسلَمة، عن أبيه، عن جده، عن جابر بن عبد الله: أنَّ محمدَ بن مَسلَمة وأبا عَبْس بن جَبْر وعَبَادَ بن بِشْر قَتَلُوا كعبَ بن الأَشرَفِ، فقال النبي ﷺ حين نَظَر إليهم: "أَفَلَحتِ الوُجُوهُ (1). صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه، قد اتَّفق الشيخان ﵄ على حديث عمرو بن دينار عن جابر عن النبي ﷺ، أنه قال: "مَن لِكعب بن الأَشرَفِ؛ فإنه قد آذى الله ورسُولَه"، ولم يُخرجاه بالسِّياقة التامّة التي:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Maslamah, Abu Abs bin Jabr and Abbad bin Bishr (may Allah be pleased with them) killed Ka'b bin al-Ashraf (the enemy of Islam). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at them, he said: "These faces have succeeded and prospered."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it. However, both of them agreed on recording this hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will take responsibility for putting an end to the evil of Ka'b bin al-Ashraf? For he has greatly harmed Allah and His Messenger." But they did not record it with this complete context.

(1) صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن إن شاء الله من أجل إسماعيل بن أبي أويس، فهو حسن الحديث في المتابعات والشواهد، وقد تابعه محمد بن عمر الواقدي، وروي هذا الخبرُ من وجه آخر عن جابر بن عبد الله. وقوله في هذا الإسناد: عن جده، وهمٌ؛ فقد روى غيرُ واحدٍ منهم البخاريُّ في "تاريخه" - هذا الخبَرَ عن إسماعيل بن أبي أويس، فجعلوه من رواية جعفر بن محمود بن محمد بن مَسلَمة عن جابر بن عبد الله، دون ذكر أبيه واسطةً بينهما، فهو المحفوظ، وكذلك رواه الواقدي عن إبراهيم بن جعفر.
Grading: Sahih, and this chain is hasan, if Allah wills, because of Isma'il bin Abi Uways, who is hasan in hadith in corroborating chains and supporting reports. Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi corroborated him, and this report is also narrated by another route from Jabir bin 'Abdullah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The words in this chain "from his grandfather" are an error (wahm); for more than one narrator, among them al-Bukhari in his "al-Tarikh", narrated this report from Isma'il bin Abi Uways and made it the narration of Ja'far bin Mahmud bin Muhammad bin Maslamah from Jabir bin 'Abdullah, without mentioning his father as an intermediary between them; that is the mahfuz (preserved) form. Al-Waqidi likewise narrated it from Ibrahim bin Ja'far.

Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari recorded it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (1/ 11), and al-Khattabi in "Gharib al-Hadith" (1/ 576) and al-Bayhaqi in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (3/ 194) by way of al-Hasan bin 'Ali bin Ziyad al-Surri, both of them (al-Bukhari and al-Hasan bin 'Ali) from Isma'il bin Abi Uways, from Ibrahim bin Ja'far bin Mahmud bin Muhammad bin Maslamah, from his father, from Jabir bin 'Abdullah.
وأخرجه الواقدي في "مغازيه" 1/ 184 - 190 عن إبراهيم بن جعفر، عن أبيه، عن جابر بن عبد الله مطولًا.

وأخرج قصة قتل كعب بن الأشرف مطوّلةً: البخاري (4037)، ومسلم (1801)، والنسائي (8587) من طريق عمرو بن دينار المكي، عن جابر بن عبد الله. لكن لم يقع في رواية عمرو بن دينار أنَّ النبي ﷺ قال لمن قتل كعبًا: "أفلحت الوجوه".
