Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5942

Mention of the virtues of Sayyiduna Abu Rifa'ah Abdullah bin al-Harith al-Adawi (may Allah be pleased with him): When Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah bin Habib conquered Sijistan, Sayyiduna Abu Rifa'ah Abdullah bin al-Harith was with him; he was a Companion of the Messenger. He travelled with the army, and when night came he stood up to pray. Then in the last part of the night he fell asleep, and his companions forgot him (sleeping there), so a group of the enemy came and slaughtered him right there (martyred him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: This is how it appears in our manuscripts, "Haml" (with an undotted ha, then a mim followed by a lam), whereas in most genealogy sources this man's name is "Jall" (with a dotted jim carrying a fathah, then a lam). See "Taj al-Arus" (28/219, root: j-l-l).

Reference / Source: See "Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd" (9/67-68), where he narrated the story of his martyrdom from Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah with a chain whose narrators are thiqah (trustworthy), but it is "mursal".
