It is narrated from Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Through the intercession of one man of my Ummah, more people will enter Paradise than (the combined number of the great tribes of) Rabi'ah and Mudar." Hisham says that Hawshab told him, on the authority of al-Hasan al-Basri, that this man is Sayyiduna Uways al-Qarani. Abu Bakr bin Ayyash says: I asked a man from his people: By what deed did Uways reach this lofty rank? He replied: It is the bounty of Allah, which He grants to whom He wills.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (authentic due to supporting evidence), while the present chain is weak because it is "mursal". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hasan refers to Ibn Abi al-Hasan al-Basri (who is a Successor), Hisham refers to Ibn Hassan al-Qurdusi, and Muhammad bin Ayyub refers to Ibn al-Durays al-Razi. Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (6/ 438-439) via Abu Bakr al-Bayhaqi, from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Abd Allah bin Ahmad narrated it in his additions (ziyadat) to his father's book "al-Zuhd" (2013) via Ahmad bin Ibrahim al-Dawraqi; and al-Tabari in "Dhayl al-Mudhayyal" (as in the selection of it by Arib al-Qurtubi, 11/ 662) via Abu Kurayb Muhammad bin al-Ala'. Both of them narrate from Abu Bakr bin Ayyash, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (12/ 153) narrated it via Abu Usamah Hammad bin Usamah, from Hisham. Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it in "al-Zuhd" (2010) by way of Hammad bin Salamah, and Ibn Asakir (9/ 438) by way of Abu Shihab al-Hannat. Both of them narrate from Yunus bin Ubayd, from al-Hasan al-Basri. Details of the narration: Only in the narration of Hammad bin Salamah are these words: "Al-Hasan said: People thought that he was Uthman or Uways al-Qarani." Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of al-Harith bin Uqaysh, which preceded with the author (al-Hakim) at number (239), but its wording is: "more than (the tribe of) Mudar", with no mention of Rabi'ah. (5834). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And it preceded from the hadith of Abd Allah bin Abi al-Jad'a' at numbers (237) and (238) with the wording: "more than Banu Tamim", and its chain is sahih. It will also come at number (5834).
