حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا العباس بن محمد الدُّوري، حدثنا أبو نُعيم، حدثنا شَريك، عن يزيد بن أبي زياد، عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى قال: لما كان يومُ صِفِّين نادى مُنادي من أصحاب معاوية أصحابَ عليٍّ: أفيكُم أُويسٌ القَرَني؟ قالوا: نعم، فضرب دابّتَه حتى دخل معهم، ثم قال: سمعتُ رسول الله ﷺ يقول: "خيرُ التابعينَ أُوَيسٌ القَرَني" (1).

It is narrated from Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla that on the day of Siffin a caller from among the companions of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) called out to the companions of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Is Uways al-Qarani among you?" They replied: "Yes." So that man spurred on his mount until he joined the army of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The best of the Tabi'in is Uways al-Qarani."

(1) إسناده ضعيف لضعف يزيد بن أبي زياد: وهو الهاشمي الكوفي. أبو نُعيم: هو الفضل بن دُكين، وشَريك: هو ابن عبد الله النَّخَعي.
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is the weakness of Yazid bin Abi Ziyad (al-Hashimi al-Kufi). Abu Nu'aym refers to al-Fadl bin Dukayn, and Sharik refers to Ibn Abd Allah al-Nakha'i.
وهو في "تاريخ العباس بن محمد الدوري" (1554).
Reference / Source: It is in "Tarikh al-Abbas bin Muhammad al-Duri" (1554).
وأخرجه أحمد 25/ (15942) عن أبي نُعيم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (25/ 15942) narrated it from Abu Nu'aym, with this same chain.
والمرفوع منه صحيح لغيره، يشهد له حديث عمر بن الخطاب عند مسلم (2542)، وسيأتي عند المصنف برقم (5825).
Grading: Its marfu' part is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (authentic due to supporting evidence); it is supported by the hadith of Umar bin al-Khattab in Muslim (2542), and it will come with the author (al-Hakim) at number (5825).
